Is it possible to get this game running in a window? I know that it was damn near impossible for the original.

They had to do that or else you would have a tiny space surrounded by a giant block of black border.

I'm not mad or anything:D that how old games work.
Still - a little shame:D
You could always try running it in a windows emulator in windowed mode. I've personally run it in a window on my desktop through a terminal window (requires at least two computers). Or do something equally crazy.
It's a bit annoying that you can't use a windowed mode. I hate programs that change the screen resolution, and KotDP would be the perfect kind of casual game to play on the side of work or web surfing. It's actually wierd; I could swear that I played it in a window back in the day, with the oriignal CD-ROM...

That's how the game was for me even when I originally played it. I never had it fill the whole screen. That's something that I'm 100% sure of.

Consider yourselves lucky. I have the original boxed copy, and it runs in a little itty bitty tiny window that would take up like 1/5th the modern screen. The only way around that is to run an external program that drops the system resolution down before the game runs, and even that is very janky.

I'm probably going to get the GOG release, just so I have a version that runs on Win7 without much hassle.
If someone could find a way to get this windowed it would be awesome. As it is I can't play this casually while I multitask because I have to manually repair two douzen windows.

I dual screen, fucking up resolution doesn't just mean re-sizing, it pushes things outside of screen windows, half into both screens etc etc It's pretty hellish.

The game is fantastic though and I would love to get it windowed so I could play it more than I'm currently able to.

Isn't there some way to get it windowed with a command line shortcut or some such? I'm not overly tech savvy myself but I've seen that work with a lot of other games.

The devs never bothered to code in a window mode since at the time window mode wasn't common so no, you can't unless someone can code a patch or a mod that would allow for window mode.
Use this software:

Where there's a will there's relatives. Errr I mean a way.

If you have Windows 7 Pro edition you can get this game running in a window by running it in Windows XP mode.

If you don't have Windows 7 Pro, but do have a spare Windows XP key, you could probably set up something similiar in Virtualbox.

Alternatively, go to KoDP.exe compatibility properties, and remove all the checks. The reason it runs full screen is that it is set (by default) to run at a resolution of 640x480, but it can run on any resolution (won't stretch though, lots of empty space around it). That does mean however that you can simply alt-tab to the other running windows, without the resolution being messed up.
