I bought this game some time ago based on recommendations/reviews from this site, but when i played it i was quite shocked at how crap it was?

It is strange how some old games i got on this site, i have immediately loved, such as Eador, Fantasy wars and Disciples, yet other games i immediately hate, such as Battle Isle and King of Dragon Pass?

Also I'm not seeing anything much in the forums to compare my reactions too?

Anyway, what do people see in this game (king of dragon pass)?

Well, what in particular did you dislike about it? Did you read the manual? Because UI explanations, the tutorial, and some other stuff too are all in the manual

Mostly i disliked the general look of it, the artwork, the graphics, etc, pretty horrid. Now i do realize it is an old game and what can i expect etc etc, but then why i have no problem with so many other old games?

My personality type, i do not appreciate 'primitiveness' For example, i refuse to watch South Park because the animation is so cheap, i find it insulting to my senses.... (that doesn't mean i don't 'listen' to South Park).

And i utterly despise games such as Mine craft or Leggo - again because the graphics/artwork insult my senses - and because their so popular (which rubs salt in the wound).

Well I rather liked the artstyle, but I suppose that's just personal preference. Most of the "graphics" are just static images. It may seem odd, but really the meat of the game is in text and events. Are you talking about "primitiveness" in terms of the graphics style? That seems odd because another game that you said that you loved, Eador: Genesis, has quite a "primitive" graphics style as well.

Did you have any particular problems with the gameplay, as you didn't seem to really mention any? One thing you must remember is that this game is very unique. You cannot play it like a typical strategy game. It's really much more of an RPG, many have described it as a tribe simulator, and I would say that they are right. You really have to put yourself in the scenario of being a clan leader.

I don't have much sympathy for your position. Why should I try to convince you it's a good game when you freely admit the criteria you use to judge it are so shallow? Nothing I can say is going to change how KoDP looks.

That is a good answer, thanks. Yes the 'static' images threw me off quite a bit. Also i like you description "tribe simulator", that is very significant, because i'm not a fan of the 'sims' of any kind..... that explains why i don't like the game!
So did you not read the description of the game or look at any screenshots before buying it? I mean, it's like buying Doom 2 and complaining that it runs on DOS and has demons in it...

Yeah, like didn't you look at the screenshots, and/or look at google images first? That is the game's ART STYLE. It was an indie game, and the art style is all hand-drawn artwork. Did you read any reviews here on gog and did you read any reviews online at gaming review sites to see what the game was about?

What's especially unique about this game is that, although set in a fantasy world, the story itself, the events and in-game decisions are closely modeled on iron age northern europe in real life... It is very different than the usual swash buckle magic melee fantasy game (though it does have magic and fighting). A tribe of people is led and deal with ugly critters, human enemies, crop & livestock events, trade alliances, travel, home life, warfare everything. If you lived in Scandinavia or northern germany before rome and christianity, that's what life was like. The game is all the critical decisions (which cause different outcomes), the human story of your family and clan/tribe, and so on. It has become widely popular. People who play it find it very immersive. Also the game has high replayability because every decision affects the outcome.

Oh, but like Planescape Torment, you have to not mind reading.

There are some great descriptions on this page also:

Doubt that he minds reading, Eador supposedly has way more text than Planescape!

I think he just did not give this game a proper chance. I don't see how you can not like this game if you like Eador.
