So did you GOG guys (or anyone) manage to get it running under Dosbox at all?

I ask as i've not had any luck so far, it will start to launch, seems to set the resolution to 640x480, then closes the Dosbox window.

Also i notice you can't change the settings (under right click>properties on the KoDP icon) to NOT use 640x480.

I was hoping to get it running under Dosbox to give more control over it's resolution and graphical rendering options, as it is on a 1920x1200 monitor some of the text does not render cleanly (enough to read, but you get the odd glitch).

Any suggestions from Dosbox champions or from GoG guys?

As an aside i had emailed David at A-sharp a few days ago about seeing if GoG could get the PC version to work as a re-release, so i hope i provided some encouragement for him to contact you guys, the best, most ethical and awesome DD service on the internet :)
Umm, the game is a windows title not a Dos one so Dosbox will not work

ha! oh yes 1999 was a windows year. I'd thought the game older. Ah well never mind. One thing i have found useful is to set my desktop resolution as low as it can be before playing the game, that helps the text render better. It still looks the same (640x480) but compared to using the higher native resolution on my screen it seems one way to clean up the text.
Win9x game. Why it's such a bugger to get working :)

I'm sorry, but this makes no sense whatsoever. How can it "clean up the text" when the game will run in 640x480 no matter what resolution you set for your desktop? Oy vey!

Ok. On my monitor which is a 24" TFT type with a native resolution of 1920x1200, when i launch KoDP and it resizes the screen to 640x480 mode (seems to do this by default as part of the gog settings), the text is a little messed up. 'n' is displayed with a gap between the top arch of the 'n', so it looks a bit like an 'r' next to an 'i' (with no point at the top pf the i), and a few other characters are a bit messed up also.

So i change the native desktop resolution to something lower (i use 1024x768) and when i launch the game, it still runs at 640x480 but the text renders more cleanly, no more odd looking text effects. It is probably something to do with the monitors scalar software etc. Anyway it is a tip if people are seeing the text a bit messed up in their games. You could try it and see if you notice a difference?

If you have non-intel graphics (i.e. amd or nvidia) it's always advisable to have your graphics card to do the scaling instead of your monitor.

If at all possible I'd rather have this game NOT change my screen resolution, instead it should leave it as it is and escalate proportionally, even if that blows image quality away. But I think that's impossible unless I tell it to run windowed, in which case it would probably look real small, and not escalate.

I don't like how it looks out of proportion (width x height).

You can change how the scaling is done in your graphic options.

Image is from nvidia control panel on my computer. Here I select Perform Scaling on->GPU and then Scaling Mode->Aspect Ratio.

The executable is set by default to be run at 640x480, thus the resolution change. Right click on it, go to properties, compatibility, and uncheck the boxes. This way you won't change resolutions, but it will be using only those 640x480 pixels in the middle of the screen. It seems like scaling isn't possible due to the engine used by the game (which I think is no longer available either).

Thanks mate, I'll look it up.

This doesn't change how it looks in my screen because when the app changes the resolution, it will stretch to fit the screen out of proportion if the resolution chosen is out of proportion.

That shouldn't be happening.

Scaling Mode->Aspect Ratio

^ with that you should have black borders down the sides (that's what it does: preserve the aspect ratio).
