When things go wrong in this game, they go really, really wrong. Here's one that made me go : "Hmmm, something is definitely wrong here"

GREAT THREAD! XD

I'm bookmarking this bad boy and I'm sure I'll have a few additions of my own. :P

Of course I wasn't fast enough to snag a screenshot last night when I accidentally fired my parachute during the initial launch and sent the whole thing spinning out of control. :P

I did that once with like my 2nd or 3d ever rocket :
(Jebediah seemed to enough the ride though :D)

I had a few, but no screenshots. On one mission, I needed to slow down an orbiting vessel and bring it back down to earth. So I used the beams and made a giant catcher's glove and sent it up -- several, several times. The thing kept breaking apart. I never got the concept to work, but I bet with some stack telescoping mechanisms, it could one day be possible!

My other greatest failure was an attempt to go into deep space. I placed maybe 40 solid boosters on the bottom stage, and then some liquid-fuel-burning engines and tanks above that. I generated so much thrust that it completely destroyed my entire my rocket.

As for OP's, your rocket failing would be a total success at a fireworks show!
Not many failshots, alas, because most of them would require good screenshooting reflexes in order to be captured well (and taking a picture is seldom my priority at these moments). But, well, here's a couple.

1) The standard first time ever arrival on the Mün. [2]
2) A standard need-more-struts departure. [124]
3) A non-standard liftoff outcome. [144/145]
4) A standard "hey here comes the rescu- aww". [176]

"Aliens" reference? :P
Very "Kerbal" thread. And I simply love the very first "rocket squid" one ^^

Here is some of my early stuff, when I was screenshot-happy. Nothing impressive, but I've got the classics

- The standard newbie campaign "all at once liftoff", or "how do you stage your rocket without decouplers?"

- My first attempt at a triple rocket without struts, aka "the squid", 3 seconds before the explosion

- One of my first EVA. A suborbital flight might not be the better place to learn how to use your jetpack...

XD that third one is gold!!
Also, I think that absolutely ever single KSP player's first launch looks a bit like that first pic. I know mine did. It even almost looks like the very first screenshot I ever took, from a slightly different angle

Yeah, I think the "killing Jeb on my first launch because I put the chute and the thrusters on the same stage" is a proud tradition followed by most KSP newbies :)
Although in my case, he didn't die. The rocket tumbled over the launchpad for maybe 10 or 12 more loops, then crashed into the ground, but the pod survived the mess, and I got just enough science to unlock the decouplers ^^
Just started playing KSP. I built an airplane and tried to land on an abandoned airport in the nearby island. Well, it was a major failure. I play FS9, IL-2, F4 (and some others) for many years and i think i'm doing well there (well, i certainly know how to land a plane or even land a severerly damaged plane!) but in KSP, oh dear, i suck! Of course i don't use any controller, just the keyboard to control the... things i'm building.

So, i tried to land on the island but things went south. Mr Kerman survirved so i had to send another plane to rescue him. I know you can click the button to rescue them automatically but i'd like to do it the hard way.

So....

1. Now there are two of them waiting for rescue team
2. Yep, three of them. Valentina Kerman just "landed".
3. I tried to find a safe way to land there. It worked...
4. ...up to the point where it failed.
5. I send the last three Kerbonauts there with a big plane. Crashed. Miserably. Thankfully, everyone survived. The positive thing about it is that i kinda.... "moved" the whole base over there! I may not have radars or a concrete landstrip but i have lot's of pieces to build something cool. And many pilots & engineers to fly it of course!

:D

It does :) It was very late one night, and I just kind of stared at my monitor in disbelief. I particularly enjoy how Bob is the only one freaking out as well
