I know it's not actually the most expensive, but it's up there.

I really want to get KSP, but man alive it is expensive. People who play it, can you tell me if it is worth the price? I'm in Canada so it is regular $54, on sale right now for $32.59. That just seems really steep, considering it almost looks like a beta or open source product...

I'm not one to write off a game because it hasn't got AAA graphics, but I also want to make sure I get a good bang for my buck. Can some players give me some perspective on this? Convince me, please!
you could always try out the demo from the developer website
https://kerbalspaceprogram.com/en/?page_id=17

i tried it out this way and fell in love with it and bought it

you have ever lived until you made your own "octopus" rocket
the fails can be so spectacularly hilariously amusing

It is best simulator I played in 15 years. Its more than a year since I got it, and I am still mastering it. Its NOT a game.

Yeah, and the demo is reaaaally outdated. You should just head out to twitch and watch the live or recorded streams.
If you ever dreamed about landing on the moon in childhood - get it.

The KSP itself is sufficient for maybe a month, but is barebones. Headover to mods are of official forum and get at least:
- KER
- KAX
- KIS/KAS
- Scansat
- all of Umbra Industries mods
- Porkjet Parts (Engines) as replacer
- Outerplanet mod (if you need even more fun)
and you'll be able to explore underwaters of ... remote planets.

Definitely worth it and then some more! Just keep in mind what Lin545 said: it is not a game. If you genuinely enjoy reading about space, are fascinated by space programs (Apollo, Soyuz etc), regularly checking out the news of NASA/ESA/SpaceX etc. and willing to learn more about space physics & stuff like that, then you'll always find something interesting to do in KSP.

Expect to spend hundreds, if not thousands of hours in KSP, so yeah, let's talk about bang for the buck! And don't be afraid if you're not too familiar with concepts like orbital mechanics or spaceship docking; you'll learn everything about them as you play (there are in-game tutorials plus you can search pretty much everything on Youtube anyway). ;)
Thanks everyone! Your comments definitely make the price tag seem more palatable! Definitely makes more sense when you frame it as a simulator instead of a game, even from the screenshots and bits of gameplay that I've seen. And I didn't even know there was a mod community for this game... Awesome!

Yeah, I think I'll have to take the plunge and give it a go!

gl , hope you have fun exploring the kerbal universe,
and watch out for the pilot Jeb he's crazy
Always been tempted for this game, but the price always seemed way OTT for what it looked like.
Found these today & really glad I didn't give them any money...

What are you purchasing? Game or developer contract? Contracts between Squad and its devs are on individual basis.
