Interesting update, I would say. Quite game changing, can't wait to try it.
Most probably will need to start a new save.
The patch won't be on GOG for a minimum of 2 weeks until it hits full release. Pre-Release is only for Steam and the KSP webstore.
We will likely get the patch about 2 days after it comes out on Steam as GoG will need to test it then bundle it into all their installers.
I wasn't paying attention for a while since I'm on a break from KSP but this is awesome news!
No chance of access to the pre-release for us GOG'ers I guess?

No, which is weird becouse there are beta channels on GOG Galaxy.

Beta and pre-release is only available on Steam. The reason is quite easy: its DRM allows to pull down all the distributed Betas, which is what typically Squad does - when release version comes out. This is Squad' choice on how they make beta-testing.
1.2 will be released next Tuesday, October, 11th

I think this is for the ksp store and steam, the gog version might come a little bit later.

I hope you're wrong. It will be hard to continue purchasing from GOG if you get treated like a second class citizen when you do. The lack of an intergrated mod system is already a killer for buying many types of games on GOG.

Funnily enough, this is a big plus for me -- i don't want any clients/intergrated mod systems/whatever bundled with the games i buy. :)

Regarding the update and any possible delays, it's not GOG to fault; check out this post and you'll see why.
Not strictly true, GoG was already a day or so behind the steam release when it was asked to be pulled due to hotfixes etc.
Squad have handled this release a lot better, they have given it a serious play test including the pre-release which has never happened before. Will there still be bugs? yes but likely nothing too outrageous because its had serious play testing by a wide range of users.
The issue is typically in its haste to get the game out Squad uploads it to steam and hits go, at that point its accessible. GoG on the other hand need to receive the files then package them into their own installers. Squad are in mexico, GoG is in Europe so when the game releases at mexican day time GoG are nearly tucked up in bed so it takes usually the full next day plus maybe some more for GoG to get into the office and make their changes.
The best we can hope is that GoG have been sent the files early so have already done their part.
Official KSP stream 1.2 release party at very this moment directly from SQUAD hq.

Yep the game now officially on Steam and the KSP store as of a few hours ago it seems.
Probably another day or two for GoG.
If it isn't out today then, I guess sorry GOG but I am done buying games here. When you consider missing out on mods and delays in updates there is just no advantage to buying stuff on GOG for me.

...not blaming the GOG staff. 1) It's a game, nothing that warrants "blame" 2) I can imagine the preferential treatment that Steam gets being the 800lb gorilla is frustrating to them
