I don't know if I'm the only one having a problem with this, but here goes.
The game runs fine, the sound is good, and the video is great...but whenever I click on save or restore, the game crashes. Has anyone else had this problem?

Need a status update from GOG. Bought this game 2 weeks ago, still no support, still can't save the game or load it.
Unplayable.
Seconded. All I can do is boot up my shiny copy of VirtualBox and play the game in a tiny fraction of the screen. (I have an XP VM to tide me over)

Which OS are you using? Is it Vista? If so, poke them again and stress this. I don't like the sound of "primarily a Win 7 issue", so I'm hoping they pick up the message soon.
In the meantime I am still chugging along with Windows XP mode on my Win7 box (no way to run it at all on my vista machine and save games) and the game has aged pretty well, even if the acting is really hammy.

fogz: Sigh. I wish I knew about this when I bought the thing!
Also, it strikes me a bit odd that win7 isn't supported....

chautemoc: It will be...they have to play through 200+ games in the middle of all their other work so..it will take time.

While I respect what they're doing, proper beta testing before release would have easily caught such an error as a crash on save/load--particularly on a Vista system, which is supposed to be a supported OS for all the games. GOG has a great and fast growing catalog, but I'd hate to think they're overlooking quality in favor of quantity.

To be fair, not all Vista users seem to be having this problem - the reason being a mystery to all of us, of course - so it may be that when they DID do their testing everything came up fine. The fact that there is a GOG DLL in the folder with the game seems to indicate they did do some work on this thing, compatibility wise.
That said, I'm still waiting for some acknowledgment that this isn't just a Win 7 problem, and hopefully a fix soon...
Honestly, I give up. My excitement for this game has died down since I have bought it 3 weeks ago and honestly have not touched it since. From now on, I will just be more careful about future purchases from GOG, since it seems the tech support is lukewarm at best. 93 posts and only 1 official response on a critical game breaking problem?
Sad really.
Hi!
Thanks to one the GOG'ers we were able to update our JP2 build and now it should be Windows 7 compatible!
Big thanks to _Zenger_ for making this possible!
I've tried downloading it twice now and I still appear to be getting the previous build. When will the new build be available on all servers?
I just reinstalled. It didn't work. Either the issue wasn't fixed, my computer is doing something weird, or you guys haven't uploaded the new build. Which is it? I wanna play! YEE!

Thanks, P! Assuming whatever issues the posters below you have are fixed soon, do you know if it would be possible to post a patch with the changed files? Any GOGers feel like zipping up the executable / support files without the media and uploading them somewhere? Some of us pay by the gigabyte for our bandwidth :(
It might take some time before the new version propagates throughout the server network.

Here are the patched files. You can replace the old ones, in the game's main folder, with those:

Gonvik, I'm going to make you more impatient
The issue has been resolved. I saw a glorious, glorious save screen. Not the same one, but it was there! A big thanks to GOG for finally resolving this issue!
I installed the patch, and I can now save and restore my game without issue. (Running Win 7 64bit)
Thanks to everyone who contributed to get it fixed!
Thank you gog and eager user:) Respect.
