In case you have trouble activating it like me, controller is enabled by pressing "S" key on your keyboard.
*EDIT* Jazz 2 players, my apologies. Please ignore this post! I'd mistakingly thought this topic was about Jazz Jackrabbit 1

Anyone reading this who has an Xbox360 pad or equivalent, and are having trouble, try this:

1. Go to the configuration file (it's called 'dosbox_jazz'). Look for the line 'joysticktype='. Make it read like this: 'joysticktype=fcs'. Save your changes.

2. Launch the game. Remember the keys for this game ... (arrows, space, Ctrl, Alt) ... and what those keys do. Now launch the keymapper (Ctrl+F1). Click on one of those keys on the on-screen keyboard. Next click 'Add' and press which button on your pad you'd like to perform that function. When done, click 'Save'.

A bit scrappy, but it gets the job done!

An easier way to fix joystick problems with Jazz 1 and the Christmas addon is to edit the config file and set "timed=0".

Nice one! I'd forgot about that. I used it for Screamer 2 and it worked well. With the timed=0 method you get to keep analogue functionality that's also much less erratic too. Thanks.

Is Jazz Jackrabbit 2 supports controller?
I haven't tried on Windows, but on Linux (using Wine) I am able to use my Steam Controller with SC Controller and I'm able to map it to joystick input in JJ2 (and JJ1).
I can't seem to get my XBox One controller to work inside Jazz 2. Pressing "s" doesn't seem to do anything to help. Is this something that anyone else has working for them?

Just got my XBox One controller to work in Jazz 2 under Windows 10. Here's what worked for me:
1. Bring up the Start menu and type "controller" to bring up the "Set up game controllers" control panel (or [Win]+R, type "joy.cpl" and hit OK).
2. Click "Advanced"
3. Pick the controller you want to use with Jazz 2 from the dropdown and click OK.

I suspect that my Razer Nostromo (which also shows up as a controller for some reason) messed up this setting for me, so I suspect this just works for most people, without having to mess around with settings. But hopefully someone finds this useful.

Just wanted to give a huge thanx to RetroCodger426 and lbacud for your help with mapping controllers to JJ1. I never knew this option was even built into dosbox. Brilliant guys, kudos to you! have a great day!!

Also having controller issues with JJ1

I am using an Xbox 360 controller wired to my computer

Joystick issues were solved by setting the type to "fcs" and the "timed" value to 0, so that's fine (thanks for the tip, by the way!)

My issue is that, no matter how I map my keys, if I map jump or shoot to one of the face buttons, the game reads it as pressing jump AND shoot at the same time. If I map the shoot key to one of the bumpers, I can shoot without jumping, but I find the best place to place the jump button is on the A button and if I press that, Jazz will jump and shoot every single time. Any ideas on how to fix?

Try using the DOSbox keymapper instead.
The DOSbox keymapper is what I am currently using ^ ^. Set up A to work as the Alt button for jump and B and then eventually Right Bumper. to work as the spacebar Still have this issue.
[GERMAN]Und was ist mit dem Problem das Jack immer nach rechts läuft obwohl man das nicht will ?
Do these instructions apply to the Christmas Chronicles expansion? I can't seem to find a DOSBox.conf for that and my gamepad just registers as having a POV Hat instead of a DPad.
