I started the game twice from the beginning, beating enemies in a nearby sector (sector 59)
According to info found here: https://jaggedalliance.fandom.com/wiki/Find_the_Micro-Purifier
the micro-purifier should be dropped by one of enemy guards... except in my game it isn't.
Any idea what might be wrong?

One other problem I noticed is that after game is restored and I am back to my room (with bed, table, wall calendar, etc.), the laptop on the table is missing - I need to restore again, manually , to fix it and be able to connect to A.I.M.

How is this even possible that such an old and praised game has still these kind of bugs? But nevermind, I still want to play this, but I need to get my hands on this micro-purifier.. so, any ideas?

1. You could actually play not on Easier or Normal difficulty, you didnt stated it clear way (while the site you cite is wrong on many things about Ja1, this particular link page is ok, errors present there are not important for the question).
2. You didnt noticed actual item on a ground, its possible with a small sprite it use. You better ensure it with use of a minimap, known items are highlighted there. Skipping an item on a ground its actually not so rare in that game.
3. You encountered a real bug. Chance for it its really small tho, assuming you playing GOG version. If you still think you encountered it, please share save file and a data about game .exe version you playing with me.
4. You intentionally provide a wrong info for a some sort of time wasting, but for now chances for it is even smaller than for a case 3.

This one is not a bug entirely; the Laptop state is changed after player hire the Copter; player cannot use it anymore the same day after hire. That state is saved in save game file, no matter if that file is autogenerated or created by player. Its an intentional game behavior. Player have to load some earlier save with other Laptop state if in need to adjust it (same way as, say, with mercenary's wound - if you will save file after wound happens, that wound will present again when you will load a save).

You think old games just do fix bugs on its own merely be the fact they do exist or what essentially you mean? The very same page you wrote your post about 2 bugs (thats not actually a bugs, see above) have a thread of https://www.gog.com/forum/jagged_alliance_series/ja1_unofficial_115_patch . You can see the (rather long) list of bugs of "such an old and praised game" fixed there in readme included in package, they are immensely more critical than the ones you're about here, and yes, you will have to play with them if you will just play GOG version without applying patch on it. Thats how it goes, sometimes patches to old games arrives and fix some bugs there. Note, the version GOG is selling is not even patched to a latest official patch version 1.13b, so have a broken gameplay in result.

Hi there, thank you for taking time to respond and going into such a detail. Yes, I play on Normal (both runs I mentioned). I checked a youtube video to actually see how this item looks in the game (when it's lying on the ground. Unfortunately I didn't see anything like it in either of my runs. I would really appreciate if you could take a look. I attach screenshot of mini-map after clearing sector 59 (and bringing 8 guards in it). I can send you save file as well - how can I do this in a most convenient way?

I think I know what you mean. I guess just a "Load" or "Restore" option in the main menu would be best, but there's only "Continue" and from what I understand now, it throws me at a point in time right before the day begins ( the day during which I left the game).

I meant, that after enough time has passed (and it is version 1.13, so I assume there had been many more patches before that), a game should be in a pretty much refined state.

"save file and a data about game .exe version you playing " - i dont know, maybe you playing some broken version im not aware of, that have some bug in it that not present in other ones. You can upload it on some filehoster i think.

Got it. No, it doesnt bring you to the last day you played, its just a way it designed - it brings player to the room menu, where its possible to load a game from list usual way. That game had really innovative and nice interface, but with some weird decisions about it as well.

The company who produced the game started to produce next games after it. They didnt bothered to issue a patch fixes to already sold game, and not returned to it, as its of no profit. Instead they are used it to create JaDG and Ja2 via means of modifying Ja1 engine, fixing some bugs in process, adding some new ones in process, keeping some old ones through all releases etc. The actual quality of game is really dire in sense of bug amount. Its not even near to refined, its not even work as planned by creators due to bugs. Its true, many fixes (and some not mentioned changes) also been applied by authors on a course of patching to 1.13b, but many bugs lived all the decades till 1.15 still.

Ok, you gave me an idea that something might be wrong with the binary, so to check it last time, I re-downloaded game installer from GOG and re-installed game. Technically the same game version - 1.13, but different GOG installer version - this one is newer. I created my squad from scratch, immediately rolled out to sector 59, killed the first guy I saw there and.... guess what? He dropped micro-purifier...
Goddammit, seems like this version works. I am wondering, maybe it didn't download properly for the first time or it was really broken in some weird sense...?
But anyway, Thank you again for your time and patience with me ;)
Now I can finally hit beaches of Metavira!

Oh, Ok, now I understand. I have to say that I like how it looks. In general, I like old games and I like the fact that back then developers had to usually invent everything anew.

This explains a lot. I did not think that they had jumped to making expansion and next iteration of the game right away.
Can you advise me if I should patch the game to 1.13b or maybe 1.15 for my first playthrough?

You are absolutely welcome, really glad it fixed with a simple reinstall. But that is weird tbh. Do you still have that old broken .exe to spare maybe? But as i got it was from GOG too, v 1.13, right? Just i never heard about such micropurifier problem prior.

I definitely advice to read 1.15 readme first (i already did it above tho), starting from bottom of file and concentrating on a bugfixes, while ignoring new features for now. Then if you will decide you prefer not to meet those bugs mentioned there in your game you could jump straight to 1.15; without activation of new features it have no real difference in gameplay. But as i dont think that i should push somebody into it more than i did already (conflict of interests there), i definitely advice to at least upgrade to 1.13b, "otherwise some game functionality will be missing or not working properly" (just another disgrace from GOG there, ignoring official important patch for a product they are selling).

I was too quick to simply remove it yesterday from my laptop when doing reinstall, my bad. But I still have the (broken?) installer - the previous version - on my desktop at home. When I'm back from vacation, I will upload it and also, out of curiosity, check if the issue can be reproduced. I will let you know with details ( probably in more or less two weeks )

Yes, it should be great, if it could be reproduced. Have a good vacations then, sir.

Also - i didnt solved anything, its misleading. Corrupted install is not a game bug, and im not suggested that possibility, so problem's solution is all your.

I checked the "faulty" installer again - it was GOG version 2.0.0.2, but the game runs fine (that is, micro-purifier is dropped as it should) on my desktop. Then I did exactly the same as before the issue appeared: I installed the game from USB drive from this installer on my laptop, but again it runs fine, no issue.
I am really wondering what happened back then that the issue was visible, but I guess we'll never really know.

Anyway, I totally agree with you: it was not a game bug and I was too quick to blame it on the game.

Right now, I am playing with 1.15x and no issues so far. However, after easily claiming first 5 sectors, the game is becoming somewhat harder. I guess I need to rethink my tactics

Yes, even with save file only in access it would been way easier.
Because it seems as not easy reproducible, i can add only 2 possible explanations there (with original cases 2 & 3 still seems possible for me):
a. Some small hardware fault during installation/playing, resulting in broken game data.
b. You actually visited sector 50 prior 59 in that save.
Both seems not really probable, but thats all i can think about without knowing way to reproduce it.
