Every game has it's troubles to clear before you can play comfortably, I already see some posts talking about Ion Fury bugs and such so I thought it would be a good idea to put all of our annoyances with the game on one thread and help each other fix them.

So this is my contribution to the thread... Hope it helps.

1: Black Screen on START

Problem Details:

Once the game was downloaded through GOG Galaxy, I would start it and would soon meet a white screen that changed to a black one while the amazing title music played... but there was nothing on the screen, the game was running, as I could use the keyboard to cycle through the options and hear the sound effects but it wouldn't show anything but the blackness of the void of my pain (for not being able to play the game)

Fix:

Don't be like me and try to reinstall it or repair it and loose your time, fix is so easy as just freaking changing the resolution to anything that is not OPENGL in the launch window. Seems my Potatoputer hates OPENGL.

Bad Performance

Problem Details:

While this game doesn't require a powerhouse PC, many of us still (try to) game in a potatosquash. Needless to say, 1920 x 1080p OPENGL settings didn't help my run ´n gun experience. It was choppy as hell and had many slow downs. This also somehow affected the mouse sensitivity and made it floaty... if that makes sense.

Fix:

Easy, if you (try to) game in a cucumbertato that HATES OPENGL Try these settings!

Go to Options

Then, on Display settings, leave everything as is except upscaling: Change it to None (When it's active, it makes the game look PIXELATED AS HELL on lower resolutions, if you turn it off, you can turn down resolution and the game will still look smooth)

Then on Video

Resolution: 1280 x 720
Renderer: Classic
Fullscreen: Yes
V-SYNC: I leave it ON to reduce screen tearing, but do with this and fps offset what you need)
FPS LIMIT: I leave it at 60
FPS offset: 0

With this settings I can run the game pretty well with minimum fps drops (if any) and minimal screen tearing

I also use Rivatuner to set limit fps to 60 and D3DOVERRIDER to activate Triple buffer and Force V-Sync on my games. This might or might not be of help to you, I have to put all of the stuff I use with my Cabbagetato.

My specs:

A 2010 Imac with Windows 7 Bootcamp.
Proccesor: Core i3
Graphics Card: ATI RADEON HD 5670 2 GB ( 512 Dedicated to Video)
RAM: 4 GB

I have this problem as well when trying to use OpenGL. I get a black screen on startup even though all the game sounds are still audible. Not ideal, but using the software renderer seems to fix this for now.

It helps with fps 30 and offset to 5, if you using 60, using negative offset values might help but still under Software game likes to choke when too much explosions happens on screen so these arena type of situations leads to hit and run, cover and kill everything before it crashes the game or kills you. ;p
So anyone got OpenGL Working? software mode can only help so much... But if I switch to opengl mid game the framerate goes to sluggish hell :(

EDIT:

Soo, for some reason 1920 x 1080 becomes more stable when you put upscaling to 2x. Just a heads up... I would still want to run the game on opengl.

Sorry for double post, but nobody else has said anything and I found trick to ease input lag when using v sync, I found it on the steam ion fury forums by the user sikobae

In order to reduce input lag when using V sync

1: Open Console (Shift ~)
2: type: r_maxfps 59
3: Click Enter! it's Done! You can now use V sync and have a better aim!

Perversely, I only get the blackscreen when I try to run in software (either fullscreen or not) and can only get the game to run in OpenGL mode. It also hates running in fullscreen in any mode.

I have an issue where even though I've finished the game, I can't select any chapters besides the first one, has anyone else come across this?

Have you tried right clicking the executable (not the shortcut) and fiddling around with the compatibility config? I run ion fury under windows 7 compatibility.

@D3niphantom

Are you using eduke32 by any chance? Because I had the same problem with running the game on eduke32

I'm just using the default launcher included with the game, I actually haven't tried playing it through eduke32 yet.

I'm just playing it in windowed fullscreen with OpenGL. While I think the game is an incredible shooter and worth playing, I honestly don't have the energy to fuck with the settings. The amount of fun and enjoyment I'm having from playing is more than sufficient (even if it would be slightly greater if I could play in software mode, as software mode does, in my opinion, look bettter).

Thank you for offering advice.
For anyone reading this thread. My solution was running in compatibility mode as mentioned above. When I ran the game in Windows 7 compatibility mode I had no more issues with changing the video settings and I was able to run it at 144fps. Before it would just go black when I would change the video settings.

For me it was slightly different:

-Win7 compatibility mode
-Run as administrator

But the important part is that I started the game directly from the game folder (without GOG), changed the video settings, quit the game and then started it from the GOG launcher -> The video settings was as I left it (and I could check that the new config was active, like the 144hz that previosly ended in a black screen).

I know im a bit late to the party just wanted to say that THIS is what solved the OpenGL issue for me.. just uncheck fullscreen at the dialog box at the start. The game is still running fullscreen 1920x1080 OpenGl after i did that.

Thank you
I found a solution to play Ion Fury with OpenGL. I just downloaded the latest version of eDuke32 64-bit, and launched the game from there. The eduke32 launcher automatically found the game
