Hi, every time I save a bookmark in !'76 I can't find it later when I reload the game. I'm also having trouble saving games in Riven. Every time I click on save or save as in the file menu the game exits. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

I'm running XP with an AMD 5600+ overclocked to 3.2Ghz and 4Gb DDR 800

Maybe UAC is causing the issues on Windows 7, especially if the game is installed in a protected folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\). Make sure the game folders have write access/permissions on them.
I got I76 during the insomnia promo and I also had troubles with saving but it only happened occassionally. All I can suggest is when you save, make sure the same game is there. Sadly, although the game is playable, there are still glitches galore.

In the nitro pack, I was playing one of Skeeter's missions and saved my own variant of skeeters van. I did type my own variant name but it still saved as "skeeter's van" (it appeared twice in the list) and everytime I tried to play, the game would crash. Deleting the variant I made and making a new one worked fine but I never had this glitch in my CD version.

I managed to get the game working a little bit better by doing a few things:

Firstly, I replaced the glide wrapper provided by the GOG installer with the latest nGlide (1.03).

Secondly, whilst playing the game I limit FPS to 30 using Nvidia Inspector. For i76.exe you can create a profile to do this, but for nitro.exe you cannot unless you delete the WCW Nitro profile first, but you can temporarily apply the frame limit to the global profile and after playing turn it back off again.

Lastly, I launch the game using a batch file so that I can set single core affinity, high priority and to force the 3dfx rendering (amongst other things). For instance, for i76.exe I launch it with the following commands:

taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
start /w nglide_config.exe
cd "Interstate 76"
start /w "Interstate 76" /high /affinity 1 i76.exe -glide
start explorer.exe

This script first kills off the Windows Explorer (this prevents the colour palette issues in cutscenes and menu screen).
Starts the nglide configurator I have in the installation folder (so that I can check the settings before the game starts).
Changes to the main game folder.
Starts Interstate 76 with high priority, on a single CPU core, and using the 3dfx mode.
The last line restarts Windows Explorer after the game is quit.

I do get a couple of odd texture issues but nothing problematic. I also run the game using my monitor's native resolution of 1680x1050 with a forced 4:3 pillarboxing, all done via nGlide.

As for the saving issue, I have experienced it. To prevent it, whenever I save the game I always click a save slot (even if empty) until the cursor appears to type in a name. I then type in a save name and press Enter to save it. I then immediately go back to the save window to check it has saved, and save again over the top. This gives a prompt to confirm overwriting, meaning that I know it has definitely saved. I cannot scroll the save slots, though, so am limited to the 10 slots. That might be normal though.
I have a feeling Pseudoman might be correct. One way to get around this problem is to install the game to a folder OTHER than Program Files (like C:\Games), so that Windows UAC will not have any problems with protections on that folder. You can also ensure you are running the game as administrator.

For those who are having recurring save problems, this might be worth trying. But it sounds like saves do work sometimes, so maybe it's a different problem.

The funny thing is that when I ran this on Linux with wine the game ran flawlessly and that's including saved games.
I have recently installed i76 from GOG and discovered the 'no saved games' issue after completing several levels - did anyone find how to resolve this issue?
Using the overwrite workflow mentioned above I was able to get a couple of save.cmp files into the game folder but the in-game load bookmark does not recognize them and tells me no bookmarks to load???
After re-installing the game for more than a year, I will have to make some new experiments over the next few days.
But I can confirm that I had that issue not being able to save car variants on Nitro mentioned above. It worked on the original game on Win7 before the GOG release (Arsenal edition)
Updating the game to the latest fanmade "20 FPS Patch", I also seem to have issues saving the game on i76.exe... I don't recall having this issue last time I played some 2 years ago. Or maybe it's specific to Linux and using DxWnd at the same time. Give me a few days and will be able to make a few more tests.
It's interesting to me that they were able to fix the in-game 3D engine but now problems happen on the game's menus? Hopefully we will be able to fix this game for the next decade LMAO xDDDDD
Gave up in the end. Purchased an actual game disc and installed on Win98 (Virtual Machine) with gold patch.

Disappointing this game still has not been fixed.
I ran into the saving issue but was able to resolve it by right-clicking on i76.exe and enabling 'run this program as an administrator' in the compatibility tab. Windows 10 64-bit, I76 directory in the default GOG location (C:\Program Files (x86)\etc.). I still have issues with Taurus and his wobbly wheels, but that isn't a show-stopper yet.
