This game is so bad that its just a disgrace that something like this took 12 years to make. These guys really need to get mental health or get to a doctor because if this was their creation, they just had one awful abortion.

All possible flaws of the original game aside, I think it's really sad that they messed up the translation this badly, because that makes it look really amateurish regardless of gameplay and not like something you would expect from a $15 'classic' on GOG. Not saying that $15 is that much money for an epic RPG, and it's cool that GOG offers those of us without knowledge of the Czech language a chance to play this, but still, of an official international release on a store like GOG I'd expect a lot more professional polish. I heard that the translation was bad and I thought that meant semantically inaccurate and stylistically clumsy, but on playing a bit of it myself, I realize it also means a real sloppy job regarding spellchecking and grammar. I doubt they had a single native speaker proofread their translation. Too bad that Inquisitor doesn't seem to have such a big fanbase, because this game could really do with a fan translation patch ... :(

I'm not that far into the game so I can't give a particularly well informed opinion but so far my thoughts on the game are pretty indifferent. I want to like the game. I love the game world for its inherent bleakness and I like what I have seen of the story. But in terms of the game's actual mechanics, it's awful.
The combat and character development really let it down. I've been at the mines since not long after the game was first released on GoG (returning to it just recently after having not touched it since 2012) because they are beyond tedious to explore, filled with lifeless and unnecessarily long combat encounters. I hate the inventory, which lacks basic features like auto-sort, bulk moving and the ability to rotate items. I hate the emphasis on potion chugging, the nonsensical equipment stats and requirements and the utter lack of interesting abilities, at least early on. I don't know how much it improves later.
But all the same, I want to persevere with it.

Is it actually that bad, or just absurdly hard?
I'm trying to figure out where people are talking about the translation problems. Am I playing an updated version or does it get worse the further I go on? So far, I've enjoyed the lengthy dialogue (it is a game about investigation right?). This isn't going to pull a Lionheart on me and become a 40000000 hour slugfest right?

I wouldn't say the whole thing is bad, but whoever designed the combat aspect of this game should never touch game development ever again. I'm genuinely enjoying the setting, the atmosphere, the old school isometric graphics and the story but the combat... my god, what an abomination. I'm really struggling to enjoy the game because of the combat mechanics.
Gobbling up potions like a drunken camel - Check
Absurdly unfair deaths and huge difficulty spikes - Check
Permanent stats loss induced by being hit by some enemies - Check
The most random durability system I have ever seen in a game - Check
Really dumb effects like confusion just making your mouse impossible to use. - Check

This is seriously just broken and I haven't even managed to make it past act 1 yet. I'm in the mines and after clearing a few levels and backtracking about 5 times back in town, I finally decide to make a good push, repair all my gear, stack up a bag full of potions and bring 6 weapons. Barely a level and half later, my armor is busted, 5 of my weapons are busted, I'm running around almost naked with my last backup knife, use some switches, open a door, ancient ghosts destroy my whole party in 2 sec. Ragequit yet again and post this.

I would agree that this game is pretty bad.
Everyone comes off like an ill-educated drunkard due to the spelling mistakes, and the combat mechanics, like everyone says, are HORRIBLE. Even so, I'm playing it and enjoying it. I like the quests and the story.
All in all, probably a 5/10

It's not a question of modernity, but one of style. You like it or you hate it.
Not every time is the latest possible makable graphic style the best. As far as I'm concerned I would prefer this style even in year 2025. It transports a special kind of atmosphere, which can't be done in other graphic styles. It's different then.

My only complaint about the game is how dialogue-heavy it is(not the best translation). The combat system doesn't seem to be very melee friendly - and after switching to ranged, I liked the game a lot more. I can't speak for everyone, but sometimes it is hard to let a new system in. This is not BG. It is its own game, and I'd recommend anyone trying to play it to let it be.

Yes, that's not fine for everybody. But another (outstanding) game was successful with exactly this style: Planescape Torment. The large amount of text-information and dialogues maked it possible to transport story and atmosphere, meaning it let room for the players imagination, describing things instead of showing them and delivered dense backgroung information.
Inquisitor try something similiar (without reaching that original) and set the focus on the story, on the players imagination, which is needed to create that special atmosphere and which makes oneself eager to play on this game.
So I would say that the large amount of text is a strength, not a weakness of the game.

I don't know why you lot are saying it's bad translation...
I bought this game off of Steam and so far I've had no problems with ANY of the dialogue.
(I only came to this site as I'm looking for a guide into stats of creatures in the game).
But, this conversation confuses me.
Since the only thing remotely true that I've seen is the combat.
But, as long as you learn the mechanics and use guerrilla warfare (Bandit tactics).
There's no problem.
Furthermore, how can people say the combat is boring?
It's no different to ANY game. It's either slash with a sword.
Fire an arrow. Or use spells. Which is the same in any game.
It's no different. You are all just trying to find fault.
Okay fine, it's a difficult game.
And very text heavy. But, I believe that's because it's a homage to the old RPG's (Text based.. duh?).
The mechanics are based on dice rolls from tabletop gaming.
And whilst it can be unbalanced due to the learning curve. ( It took me 9 attempts to kill a skeleton at first).
But, the learning curve is fun. Hell, it makes me want to play it more because it's a challenge.
If this were a simple game. Then it wouldn't be fun.
It wouldn't make you want to play.
And about the quest system. The game doesn't give you hints because it's meant to be a
detective type thing. You're meant to look for yourself.
The Holy Inquisition in the past didn't get hints and tips...
They had to look for themselves. They had to find "heretics".
The "heretics" didn't just come to them asking to be tortured and killed...
Some people.. need to get some perspective.

The combat is similar to any real top down game.
There isn't that much you can do combat wise with respects to things like this.
In first person games like Skyrim and so on.
There's more you can do. But, in the end it still all comes down too...

It all gets bland eventually.
