How do I clear Nicolas of rape? Do I have to actually force Mrs. Lambert to recant her testimony, or is there a way to find evidence that she is a seductress?

Talk to the snobbish Vice-Governor Forgot-Her-Name (she lives just one or two houses away) and she'll literally dig up some very nice dirt that you can use against Mrs. Lambert.
