I'm thinking about getting Inquisitor, but I can't find a lot of info on it. Can anyone who has played it recommend it? I'm interested in knowing things like replay value, overall difficulty and length of the game.

Unfortunately, I don't think you'll find anything until the English reviews start appearing. I already had a good look before preordering.

I can only tell you that you can have a different experience when playing as another character, that the game is quite challenging and that it should take you at least 100 hours to finish it.
Mine'll have to suffice so far I'm afraid. But I will shamelessly advertise it nevertheless.

Thanks for your review. The game sounds like everything I'm hoping it will be as a preorderer.

I was wondering though, what do you mean when you say:
and priest is an actual inquisitor, which comes with greater privileges
I thought all classes were inquisitors? Does this have any impact on the plot?

All classes work for Inquisition, but priest can get up in the ranks of Inquisition, to the point where he works as judge and can arrest, sentence and punish anyone even withou proof.
Currently playing the game as a priest specialized in illegal heretical magic. Wonder if it's gonna come back to bite me in the ass later, like getting excommunicated
A slightly more critical one I've just posted

I bought this game from gog on a whim, and my first impressions are not great.
Graphically, it's great, and the same is true for the sound.
Combat feels a bit cumbersome, but isn't really that bad.

Unfortunately, the English translation isn't particularly good.
Here are a few examples, taken from a conversation early in the game:

(speaking with the herbalist in the 1st town):
"I'm glad you've arrived at last. I've been impatiently expecting you. I'm sure there's great power inside you even in your young age. The power that's able to front the darkness slowly enshrouding the town"

"Darkness was enshrouding you much like the whole town, but there was a lit torch in your hand and that means defiance and power"

"They always herald something that is going to happen and what is going to happen."

In short, it could be a good game if you can ignore the writing, but for me, the writing is rather distracting
Unfortunately, almost no major sites are covering the game at this time. I write for GameBanshee, a CRPG site, and I've had a review copy for several days - I'm trying to get through the game quickly, but I ran into an issue which appears to be preventing me from progressing at the moment (waiting on feedback from the developer). Hopefully I can have my review out within a week or so.

I agree about some of the writing, though personally I think it adds a slightly foreign flair to the game. :p
If that's the worst of the translation woes, I'm not worried. I've seen much more pitiful translations than that.

It's cute until you notice the same confusion about sentence structure appearing in game after game, and it becomes clear that the translation was never examined by a native English speaker. No doubt the same thing happens in reverse.
While I don't intend to comment on the quality of the English translation much, here is how it worked:
- the game was translated by a group of skilled Czech game translators (that are naturally well-versed in translating games from English to Czech, but not that much the other way round)
- then several native speakers volunteered to proofread the whole text in their spare time for free - and while I think they did a very good job (and proposed hundreds of changes in the translation), it was clear that they couldn't find all typos and awkward translations - that simply wasn't possible considering the huge amount of text.

Also, since the proofreaders were from all corners of the world, it was interesting to watch how one thing matters to one guy while going absolutely unnoticed by others.
meh the translation while not the best, isn't the worst I ever seen and honestly I bearly notice it maybe it's due to having played tons of awkward translated Japanese games in the NES and SNES and PS1 era, I'd say it's maybe on par with Final Fantasy 7 for awkward English.

Honestly so far that and the kick you in the teeth hard difficulty is the worst parts I have experienced with the game so far which if that continues to be the case I'd say it was more then worth the asking price.
I was very curious about this game, but refrained buy pre-ordering.

More than the translations I'm spooked by my lowering tolerance to frustrating games (due to age :p? ).

Thanks for these first impressions, I'll watch this thread to decide if money are well spent.

Play on easy mode if it's too hard? :p The game difficulty is pretty brutal early on, but it gets easier the longer you play, generally. Also, playing as a thief, I find ranged attacks are more effective than melee and you use less potions overall, provided you have followers to tank for you.
