ArbitraryWater: This game has some cool aspects. I don't necessarily consider the gameplay one of them.
I have to agree with that. The iron mine dungeon I've been "exploring" for a while has been quite harrowing in that regard. It's annoying to run out of potions and/or have your weapons break and become unusable in the middle of a fight. It forces you to go all the way back to town and when you're almost all the way down the mines ( at least I hope so ) it can be frustrating. The sad fact is that the mediocre gameplay gets in the way of what seems to be a good story and an interestingly dark and moody setting. This game seems to have something of an identity crisis, it wants to be like Baldur's Gate but it also would like to be Diablo. Unfortunately, it lacks the town portal scrolls from the latter and that makes the durability mechanic a chore for me.
Still, I'll finish that game the same way I once finished Lionheart because I want to see where it goes from there and if the other dungeons in the game are going to be as frustrating ( I certainly hope not... ) and mainly because story is the most important thing for me in a rpg and as such I'm looking forward to see what Act II has in store for me.
