Gydion: Have you tried playing with GPU scaling and/or monitor scaling?
avatar
gsreis: No, I don't know how to do that. I can change the screen resolution, of course, but is it possible to force it into 4:3 display?
Depending on your hardware & drivers, yes.

gsreis: Thanks a lot, Alfie! I had the same problem and this worked. Now if only there was a way to fix the aspect ratio to 4:3...

lugum: This, i had another copy tried in scummvm, and it is fully stretched. Why was there a seperate configuration file for this? Why not just use scummvm or the dos version with dosbox.
Once GOG games just worked out of the box, but lately..
Because it's not the oringinal version, but Wyrmkeep Entertainment's re-release which technically works with modern Windows systems, but which unfortunately doesn't support high resolution monitors very well. So, it's not really GOG's fault.

Well yes and no, GOG can just request to use the dos version. There are no legal issues with it, nor would there be any loss for Wyrmkeep if they did use it.

These things can be tricky, while Wyrmkeep has right to publish new version of the game, I'm not certain if they have rights to publish the original New World Computing version of the game.

Alfie3000: Try right clicking the shortcut --> Properties --> Compatibility --> Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution.
best solution as SCUMMVM does not work, at least on 1.6.0 which comes with "Indiana Jones Fate of Atlantis. when I select Inherit the Earth all grey no selectable except html. compatibility mode makes more sense.
I use ScummVm V2.0 to run the game and I can make it run in widescreen:
1. Create a shortcut for ScummVm on my desktop.
2. Change the Properties/ Compatibility to allow it to run in 640X480 screen resolution.
3. Then use the Add game function to add Inherit The Earth to the ScummVm Launcher menu.
4. On the Launcher, go to Edit Game, then on the Graphics Tab, tick all four check boxes (Override, Aspect Correction, Full Screen, and Filter Graphics.
5. Optionally, add a save path for Inherit the Earth if you want a specific save location for this game.

The launcher is able to run many of my ScummVm games and I gladly appreciate it, It does have its short comings though.
Wow, this solved my issue completely! Thanks a lot!

I downloaded ScummVM and ran the game on there and it's pretty much perfect!
