nice to find so many friends of that great game.
But for some reason naval landings diesnt seem to work.
I attacked a city, with "send in the troops" and in the next turn, when
everything should be ready, my general says, that I only can attack
cities or provinces with a port. The funny thing is, that I attack cities with
a port. What do I do wrong ?

Hmm.... Make sure all of the following are happening:

- You are making landfall and not blockading a port (send the navy to a land tile in the same proving as the port, not on the port itself).;
- Make sure you have a navy large enough to support the number of troops you want to attack with; and
- Make sure you are sending the troops into the same province that you sent the navy into. Imperialism tends to do some confusing things with troop/naval movement arrows, so what is most likely happening to you is that your navy is making landfall in a different province from the one you are trying to send your troops to.

I have noticed that you cannot send troops from the port city of a colony. They must be sent from a port city or port you have built. Also, you can only land on a later turn, not the turn you order the beach head.

Another tip that some may find useful. You can add ships to an established beach head without undoing the landing order. For example, say you have ten raiders setting up a landing and then two more arrive. You can "undo" your landing order, then immediately reestablish it with the two new ships, so now you have twelve raiders landing troops and you can land them immediately.

Establishing a landing zone on the capital city of a computer opponent is also a great way to decoy his troops away from a province that is too big for you to attack. This will not always work, especially if he has a lot of troops. But, if you make a decoy landing in his capital but immediately abort it, so that none of your troops are killed, the next turn it will almost certainly be guaranteed that he will have evacuated his troops from the province you wished to attack to reinforce his capital's garrison. You don't always have to engage in a bloodbath battle for a certain province. If you can be patient, you can finesse him to abandon a province and all you will have to deal with is militia.

How many troops can the ships transport in naval landings? If you don't bring enough, the minister tells you how many you can get in.
I didn't find anything in the manual about that, does anybody know?

Make sure you are attacking from a province with a port. If they are inland it doesn't work. Similar to how they must be in an adjacent province to attack via land

In IMP 1 the number of guns used to build the ships must be higher than those used to build the troops.
In IMP 2 you can send one unit for each point of cargo space (of the ships involved in the beach head)

Hi all,

I've got a problem when making a Navel Landing... each time when I send me troops to attack an province using some ships my game crashes. I'm playing on Win8 and it is working okay, except this part. I've already tried changing the compatibility mode to Win XP sp2 but no success sofar. Anyone has any ideas?

IMP or IMP2?
What version do you have?
Did you get it from GOG or somewhere else?

I'm also using the gog version but I've never had that problem. Nor do I remember that from when I still used the CD ROM version. I recommend contacting gog support
