Hi guys,

Just had a bit of a nightmare and wondering if anyone can help.

An hour ago I was in the middle of a game of Imp 2 when Windows 10 decided it was time to update. It booted me out of everything and went into the frustratingly long update cycle. After the update I am now on the 'Windows Anniversary Update' which, apart from screwing up my Start menu (why Microsoft, why can't you just leave it alone?!) also seems to have totally broke Imp 2.

I am now getting errors left right and centre. I literally can't do anything in game without it throwing Assertion error and forcing me to quit.

"ASSERTION

D:\Epsilon\win_cd.cpp @407

_winCdPlay"

As soon as it throws this error all buttons stop working and I have to force quit.

I've tried re-installing Imp 2 to no avail (but I did lose my damn saved games).

I'm running a bootcamp version of Windows 10 on a Mac Book Pro. Honestly I hate the fact that I am tied to this damn OS! Grrrr :@

Anyway, if anyone can lend any assistance it would be greatly appreciated.

Muchas gracias amigos!

Don't have 10 and I think I know why ;) Yes pun intended ;)

Did you try and check what was written in here:

https://www.gog.com/forum/imperialism_series/windows_10

starting from post 12, the winwhatever dll?

Maybe the patch brought it back, but this time in your win folder? You might want to check for this dll.

Hi Goodaltgamer, thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately renaming the dll has not fixed the bug. I also can't see any mention of it in my win folder either.

Cheers

Hi dixinormou,

I suggest you contact support:

https://www.playonlinux.com/en/source-1714-GOGcom__Imperialism_2_The_Age_of_Exploration.html

# The game require a cdrom drive, in order to avoid the
# the "D:\Epsilon\win_cd.cpp@407 _winCdPlay" error popup
ln -sf / "$WINEPREFIX/dosdevices/p:"
cat <<_EOFINI_ > "$POL_USER_ROOT/tmp/cdrom.reg"

It seems to not be able to find this CD anymore. So the upgrade did change the registry I assume and made a change that the cd can not longer be attached....

EDIT: And I don't see any easy way to do it by ourselves ;)

Hi guys,

So I think I've found a work around for this.
Turning the volume of SFX and Music down to zero seems to have fixed the issue (for now *touch wood*).

Hope this helps any others out :) Found the suggestion on another forum so all credit goes to them, however I but can't post links yet. xD

Happy conquering!

I Can't believe this actually worked

Thanks :D
Turning down the music and SFX doesn't work for me. This game worked perfectly until the last Win10 update - now it won't play - all I get is Assertion errors.

Any other solutions?
I'm getting the same exact error.
I also have the same issue.
I have the same issue.
The awesome soundtrack straight-up does not work in Windows 10, even before the Creators Update. Now it doesn't work at all. Please fix these issues, GOG!

Your solution worked but I seem to have stumbled onto a better one for win 10:

the game needs a dvd drive and I no longer have one
but I do have .iso images laying around
and windows 10 allows you to create a virtual drive by right clicking on .iso files and pressing mount

This solved the _winCdPlay issue and allowed me to restore volume to all sounds.
Hope it works for others as well
Just wanted to help alert GOG to the issue. I have the same exact problem

Same problem. Turning the Music down to zero in Preferences works for me. SFX can still be turned up.
