I have a standard dual analog stick gamepad and the game does not recognize any of them. A total waste of money.

Have you tried remapping the axes in the controls menu? You go to Controls, scroll all the way down to HOTAS section, and there you shoulkd be able to map axes.

Thanks, it eventually worked. The game does not allow to assign gamepad axes for any control (only buttons) but they actually do control elevator/aileron.

If I understand you correctly, this is the normal behavior. You can map buttons (keyboard, contoller, joystick, whatever) ONLY in the controls list, and axes ONLY in the HOTAS section.
