i installed the game, the inspection was fine, and the game won't run. i tried running as administrator and i get the icon like the computer is working for a few seconds then nothing happens.

how can i run this game?

My suggestion is to install outside of Programs or Programs(x86). Something like C:\Games. Run the installer as Admin. Run the game as admin as well.
i tried that and it didn't work.
reinstalled directx.
the game won't run after installation.

is there a way to contact the company for a refund? the contact us link just sends me to the support page
You likely won't get a refund.

What are your system specs? I have it running on a Win7 64 bit rig with no issues (even have a bunch of mods installed to the game). What about your antivirus/firewall? Maybe one of them is interfering with the install of the game. Perhaps try turning one or both off while installing.
anti virus is off, not sure how to check firewall though. i am running windows 7 64 bit. why wouldn't i get a refund?

- because the game is DRM free, so easy for you to make a copy, claim the game doesn't work, and get your money back while still having the game. No way for GOG to be sure.

- because GOG's policy is no refunds on games once they're DLed.

- because the game has been checked to run on Win7 and it does. There's likely some kind of software or permissions conflict on your system, which isn't GOG's fault.

Have you tried setting compatibility mode to Win XP for the game? Also, what are your other system specs? Drivers up to date?
how do i change the compatability mode?

Right-click either on the desktop shortcut or on the game .exe in the main game folder and choose Properties. Select the Compatibility tab and check the box for running the game in XP compatibility mode.

Do you have DX9 installed at all? If not, grab it and install it. DX10 and DX11 do not have all the components that DX9 does, but you can install them separately and they won't interfere with each other (whatever version a particular program needs, is the one it will use). You can get it Here.
Thanks
I tried to install direct x 9 but I think it said I have a newer version, is there a way to bypass that?
After all that It probably is the dx9 (hopefully)

Newest version of DX9 is the one I linked. If it's not allowing you to do it from the web installer, try DLing it from Here (to your desktop or somewhere easy to find) and install from your machine.
i installed the dxwebsetup on my desktop and ran it. it still says a newer or equivalent version of direct x is present so it won't install

i did dxdiag and i am running directx 11.

i'm not sure how i can install direct x 9. this is so frustrating
i was able to add the directx 9 components from the OFFLINE version of the download not the web setup version.

i also updated my nvidia 310m driver to the latest version.
the game works now
thanks for your help.

after all this i don't even want to play it :(

Awesome! Glad you got it going. I thought you might be a bit soured on it after all the hassle - I know I would be as well. Maybe just give it a day or so and then try playing. It's a great game and easily one of my favorites of all time.

Anyway, glad to see you got it worked out and hopefully you'll enjoy the game.
