Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma: which one gives you alternate dialogue options?

Game guides seem to imply it's Charisma, but I've found a dialogue right at the start which doesn't appear if you have very low wisdom. If all of them contribute, does anyone know the minimum requirements to have the best dialogues?

Since when are there best dialogues in these games? Play your characters as you want them to be, matching their stats to your vision of the characters. That a stat's value may reveal a particular option doesn't mean it's the best option, it just means it's what a character with such traits could choose to do.

There's no diplomatic approach in Icewind Dale, you get a bunch of quests, new location, go kill a bunch of monsters and move on

There are quite some dialogue checks in the game. Some check for race, some check for profession and some check for stats. 15 cha is enough for the charima based options, there is a very beneficial option you get later in the game if you have at least 14 int or wis. In the prologue there are at least 4 checks for the talkers race, profession or stats with beneficial outcome.

There are quite some optional quests in IWD and I remember 5 situations (I'm sure there are far more) which can be solved either with violence or peacefully and far more dialogue checks. But they are in the game flow, they aren't forced on you like in other games, so some players just overlook them and complain about them not being there.

Yes, the race/class/align checks are actually quite impressive. The smaller scope of the game really let creators toy around with those.

However, I don't think they are worth giving, for example, fighter 15 charisma, for the game is REALLY combat heavy... Or are they?

Also, you have just re-awakened my interest in the game, I really thought there no really important stat-based plot decisions in the game

It's enough to get all beneficial stat based dialogue options.

I think you can't do what you want anyway, not unless you use a carefully constructed guide, whic would suck the fun out of the game's surprises, obviously. I believe the game only checks the statistics of the party member initiating the conversation, not the whole party's potential, so without someone telling you which character to use for each NPC you'll miss a lot of things anyway. Just play the characters you want and make the "leader" (the one who does the talking) whoever you want at any given time without worrying, that's the best option really. Then replay it in a different manner and see what's different.

Also relevant because you can't always chose who gets to do the talking, sometimes after combat your main char might be stunned or silenced or heck, shape shifted ;P and dialog switches to the 2nd in command... Also triggered dialog will target the character you have selected / closest, and not the first one in the group. Meaning you will never see all dialogs unless you micro manage it.

So, I have IWD2 now. Same question, same answer?

If I make a paladin with 14 INT and 14 CHA, (+Diplomacy, Bluff, Intimidate skills) will it make all the witty dialogue options show up?

I don't know for sure, but I would guess that the stats themselves don't matter, only the talking skills.

In IWD2 most dialogues check for the dialogue skills which are influenced by the charisma modifier and skill points spent in them. If you maximize those skills you'll get all of them, even less are sufficient.

I don't think there's a direct charisma check in the game, but it's useful for better shop prices.
18 int is enough for the 2 int checks during the game, but in those situations other party members can talk afterwards. There's also one check for 13+ or so wisdom.

I don't recommend having a paladin do the talking, paladins and monks refuse rewards, if you have another class for talking the game will be easier.
You should also be aware that you won't have the option to do quite some things at one point in the late game with a pure class paladin in the party since he'll refuse to disguise himself (multiclass paladins won't).
