I was wondering if there is a chart or can someone explain what each pip of weapon proficiency does?

Especially past 1 pip.

I got a dwarf fighter with 3 pips in axe and trying to figure out if its worth going past 3.

Looks like it might just give +1 to hit for the 2th pip.

Your fighter, being a warrior class, is able to specialise in weapons, unlike non-warrior classes. What this means is that with no 'pips' in a weapon slot, the user incurs a penalty. For each 'pip' or 'slot' the penalty is reduced. A warrior will earn additional 'pips' every 3 levels. Additionally, your fighter will also get bonus attacks per proficiency. As a warrior, he/she can go up to 5 'pips', and earn the following:

1 pip (proficient) == THAC0+0 Damage+0 #Attacks per round == 1
2 pips (specialised) == THAC0+1 Damage+2 #Attacks per round == 3/2
3 pips (mastery) == THAC0+3 Damage+3 #Attacks per round == 3/2
4 pips (high mastery) == THAC0+3 Damage+5 #Attacks per round == 3/2
5 pips (grand mastery) == THAC0+3 Damage+5 #Attacks per round == 2

The attacks per round are based on level, like so:
Level 1-6 == 1
Level 7-12 == 3/2
Level 13+ == 2

Thanks, so is it worth taking a weapon to 5, or maybe good to take a few to 3 to have more options?

For a warrior, it's always best to go to grand mastery (5 pips), if only for the 2 attacks per round. Think about it. :)
Ok, I can always use the editor and change weapon types later if I find an ubber weapon of a different kind.
