Thanks for the suggestion, but no dice. It *looks* fine, through the title and menu screens. It just feels like its running on some ancient 386 or something. Massive mouse lag, minute long loading screens, etc. I've tried all the config settings to no avail. I'm hoping I don't have to disable a processor core or some such, but I've never had to do that for gog before...

Gonna try a reinstall, but not looking good.

I'm using Windows 7 64 Bit and don't have any problems. I did, however, install some modes and tewaks from this thread:

You might try (if you are using nVidia or similiar card) to tweak 'nVidia control panel'. I bet you got installed newest drivers compounded with this shiny little toy. Right-click on desktop, choose 'nVidia control panel', choose 3D Settings, choose Advanced 3D Settings. There you can tweak how your driver control graphic card. You should check out 'Application Extensions' and TURN it ON (or vice versa if TURNED ON already). Such action helps with graphic and crashing issues with older applications like found on GOG.com (though they are modified to work on newer machines).

Also Menu Start Button -> Run -> DxDiag. Try various combinations here like same above (music & ddraw & direct3d acceleration), until you cross needed for.

That Compatibility Manager seems to allow you to run games with Direct Draw emulation. For me, it fixed problems with Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. (It causes some issues with mouse trails in Torment but at least big spells no longer slow my system to a crawl)

I'm not familiar with the problem in the OP but it couldn't hurt to try.

I've had no issues with getting games to run on my rig. For info, here's my setup:

Win7 Professional 64 bit. I have a 60GB SSD for the OS, and a 750 GB HDD drive split into two partitions. One is for my Users folder (I did a little registry tweak so my Users folder is on a different partition and drive than the OS) and the other is for games. When I installed the OS, in order to make sure I didn't fill up my SSD, I went into Programs (not the x86 one) and created a Games folder there. Then I mounted the Games partition in that Games folder. As you can see, my setup isn't the straight-forward Win7 users setup. But it works great for me and has given me no trouble so far.

Every time I install a GOG game, I run the installer as Admin. Once the game is installed, I right-click the desktop shortcut and switch it to Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode and set it to run as admin. Despite that, I still generally right-click the shortcut and choose Run as Admin when I fire the game up. If I install mods to the games, I'll always do as as Admin, just like when installing the base game. I've had no issues so far.

Hopefully, you'll find something in there that may help you solve your issues.

I am having the same problem as the op with my win 7, I load up the game, it gets to the title screen and when I go to start up the game it just stops responding.

I have same problem, on vista, as the post immediately above, and absolutely none of the suggested fixes work.

I do run as admin, install to other than program files, try windowed mode, reinstall, restart comp, redownload, etc.

All other games work on my computer, just not icewind dale. I get to the main menu and cant load a game, and create game greys out the box and does nothing else.

Have you tried these three settings in the COMPATIBILITY tab of the game shortcut ?

- Disable visual themes
- Disable desktop composition
- Disable display scaling

I put it in xp compatibility mode and did what Kezardin said and that fixed it for me

Yeah...putting it in XP mode and making those changes definitely fixes it.

Having the same issues. Running W7x64. Tried compatibility (sp?) and administrator as well as fiddling the graphics settings. Most suggestions made things worse.

Trying the reinstall right now.

@patryn, did you do the tweaks before or after you tried to run a game? (e.g. was it already working fine for you anyway?)
