I'm on win 7 x64 and I want to run the game in windows mode and on default resolution.

Firstly, I put on acceleration in config...that lead to the known mouse ghosting and flickering screen problems. Turning off triple buffering fixed that.

I want the settings 32 bit color, windowed mode, 800x600 res *which I believe is the default*, I don't want to choose any of the higher res' from the list and I don't want to fiddle with mods and to get my 1920x1080 res.

The problem that I've just checked, when creating a random party, is that I can't scroll in windows mode and I'm getting very slow performance...even with acceleration on. And isn't that specific option meant to stop slow down?

Please help.

Basically, I want to run it on the default settings but 32 bit and windows mode. Acceleration is on and my problem is still the slowing down .

There are many threads with game running problems but I'm not surprised really.

Help, please.

One thing to try is to enable the "Use OpenGL 3D Acceleration" option in the configuration utility. Doing this cleared up quite a few graphics/performance issues for me.
"Firstly, I put on acceleration in config"

"even with acceleration on"

"Acceleration is on "

If you read my post...

I'm saying I can't scroll for some reason, on windowed mode.

I use the following options and it runs fine:
3d: off
16 bit color
Software BLT checked
Software Mirror BLT checked
Software Trasparent BLT checked

OpenGL 3D acceleration screws up my graphics entirely and running it in 32 bit made it slow as hell as soon as spells like entangle or stinking cloud were used. You can experiment a bit with the Software BLT Settings. I run Win7 64 bit with an ATI HD 5850

Oh and running it on a custom resolution is not complicated at all. Just download http://www.gibberlings3.net/widescreen/ (use the gibberlings3 mirror, the others are dead) put it in your game directory, run it&enter your desired res.

Edit:
Disregard what I said before. You actually solved MY problem with the triple buffering thingy for 3d. So I noticed this: in the icewind.ini there is an entry called Backwards Compatible 3d=0
make sure this is set to 0, and not to 1. Setting it to 1 caused severe slowdown.

Hm..okay...but why can't I scroll on windowed mode?
You know what I mean? like when you put your mouse to the corner and it moves the camera.
I'm unable to do that in windowed mode.

Okay...I done the widescreen mod, and it's at 1920x1080..it's nice and the UI isn't gigantic compared to the actual game anymore but the UI Is tiling itself, which is weird but I expected it to.

Edit : Strange..I can't window mode it...because it's my native resolution so it's going to be as if it was on full screen...ohwell ;P ofc I can't. Silly me.

I've had such a hard time getting this game to run smooth will try your setup TehMarv and see if it works. Did not know about the Backwards Compatible 3d thing
Indeed..
Okay..

I'm on 1920x1080 mod res
32 bit
full screen (obviously because of the res)
HIGH END 700MHZ
The config graphics res is set to 800x600 but it's not really.
OpenGL acceleration is on

and it's kind choppy when I scroll...

hmm

DAMN! I looked the backwards compatibilty thing and it was already set to 0.

I just put the game back to

800x600
Open GL on
32 bit

there is a certain charm to it...and the UI isn't tiled
and I can actually see the sprites..since they aren't far away. Lol.

I'm used to the terrible graphics now lol.

Try to increase the cache size (Max is 999). Maybe that helps.

It's for older systems, older OS'

As far as I know IWD will reset the cache size to 175 if you change it higher than 999.

You ninja-edited on me! Damn you!
