I've experienced a very similar issue, though it was actually a mod installer for Civilization IV. Turned out to be a UAC issue. Running as Administrator may work.
I always install my games and mods as Admin. I though maybe I'd forgotten to do so and tried again, but still no joy. Anyway, copying from XP solved it.
Anyone know which of the 1pp packs works with IWD besides the female dwarf avatar pack?

riddleofsteel: Anyone know which of the 1pp packs works with IWD besides the female dwarf avatar pack?
This is the pack I installed. It doesn't mentioned IWD compatibility, but when I went to install it, only the option "everything but potions" failed. It reported success on everything else- short swords, paper dolls , potions, rings, shields herbs etc.

It isn't everything as it's missing avatar fixes and WIP content, but it's a lot.

I've only started using it but so far as best I can tell it all worked as the installer claimed.

As for the Avatar fixes, I installed this pack, which again claims to have installed correctly.

I haven't tested extensively so I can't confirm everything is actually showing up though.

Thank you. I have installed the packs you're referring to, but I don't think they're having an effect. I'll keep experimenting.
I installed the female dwarves mod, the paperdolls mod, the thieves galore mod and the avatar mod from 1pp (Along with the mods listed by the op) and I did not notice any problems.

The installing was problematic though because the mods seem to be using different versions of some software, first time I installed the widescreen mod first but then I couldn't install the (I think) female dwarves mod because it was an older version of than the widescreen mod.

Which of the higher, widescreen resolutions does IWD look best in? I have a 16:10 monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1200. Thanks.
I'm running it at 1920x1200 and I think it looks great, but I can see how some may think everything is too small.

What Coelocanth said. Here it is in 1920x1080: http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/2150/iwd1024.jpg

If that's too zoomed out for you, go with 1280x800. I found even that a little small (on 1680x1050 monitor), but good enough.

A note to all those experimenting with mods:

Since I am planning to solo all the way through the game the way I did BG1&2, I installed the IWD "Level 40" mod to help absorb excess xp. However, be warned IT DOESN'T WORK. It screws up the spell progression table. My paladin reached level 7 and not only could he still not cast spells, but I was forced to uninstall and re-download the game to get rid of the faulty mod. Conclusion: DO NOT USE THE L40 MOD.

Two things:
first, the lvl 40 mod was originally for BG 2, which means it probably takes the level progression from BG. That means paladins and rangers getting their first spell at level 8 IIRC, not 6 or 7.
second, you don't really need that mod considering that HoW includes a progression all the way to lvl 30, and in 2nd edition, there isn't much of a difference between lvl 30 and 40, especially for fighter types. I think the only thing you get from it is a bit more HP and slightly better saves (which should be maxed anyway by that time, especially solo).
Has anyone found a reeadme or something that descibes Grog's Custom AI scripts?

Coelocanth: Had an odd thing happen on my Win7 rig. Extracted the Unfinished Business and the IWD Tweakpack mods into my installation and didn't get an executable file. Everything else showed up fine (the respesctive folders and debug files, etc. but no program executable) Thinking it was the result of corrupt DLs, I DLed again (tried both the .rar version if available and the .exe version) and still no joy. So then I DLed it onto my XP rig and extracted the files right into the DL folder on that rig. Copied the .exe files (setup_ub_iwd and setup_G3DaleTweaks) to my Win7 Icewind Dale install and everything worked fine.

I should note that in the confusion I ended up installing and running the Tweak mod before the Unfinished Business mod. There seem to be no ill effects, but I've only just created a party and not played any significant amount in the game yet.
Just wanted to mention I was encountering the same problem on my Windows 7 rig. The widescreen mod installed fine, but the tweak mod just installed the folders with no executeable.

I found that extracting it to a temp folder first produced the executeable, along with an error message saying the game .exe couldn't be found. But this let me copy the extracted "setup-G3DaleTweaks.exe" file into the proper game folder, and then run it manually. All seems to be working now!

Hope that helps someone! :)
