Hello,

I have been playing IWD2 on my computer for a while, and I decided to boot it up, but now any infinity engine game I have doesn't respond to keyboard inputs.

I'm running Windows 7 on the latest updates.

Also I am running this on a computer, not a laptop with touchpad.

Have you tried rebooting your computer?
Not sure if you're trolling, but I'll roll with it because I think Infinity Engine games are the shit.

So yes, I've restarted.

The reboot suggestion is not a troll post. It's a common occurrence in Windows for drivers to glitch out and cause things like phantom keyboard input and/or lack of response. A reboot is the very first thing to try in such cases.

Are you saying that you rebooted and now IWD2 still doesn't respond to keyboard input? And have you actually checked, since your reboot, that other games react the same? I very much doubt that lack of keyboard input is caused by Infinity Engine games; if you're having issues with only these games, it's far more likely to be an installation or configuration (ini) issue. Have your tried running the config program?
Hi

This is an interesting problem for a few reasons.

On this very computer, I have successfully played the BG series, and IWD2. All without problems. I gave them a break for a while, and then booted them up for a good dose a nostalgia. But none of these games respond to my keyboard input. I have restarted the game, and my computer. This does not remedy the problem, neither does running/changing any settings in the config program. This problem occurred with the initial installation with the game, I did not uninstall it. The original installation went from responding to keyboard input, to not responding to keyboard input.

This is a common problem that I've found all over google, there are many posts with this exact same problem. The only solution seems to be removing/updating drivers for the touchpad. I am running a desktop computer, and have tried this with three different kinds of keyboards. An older keyboard which used a PS2 adapter, a wireless keyboard which used USB transceiver, and a cheap 20 dollar wired-USB keyboard. None of the keyboards have solved the issue.

This appears to be a problem with the Infinity Engine games specifically as my keyboards have no issues with any other games made in the 90s to today's most recent games. Additionally, many posts i've found on other forums seem to have this same problem specifically with Infinity Engine games. But I cannot find a solution.

The problem appears across other platforms as well.

Edit: I've tried to post links to other forums about this problem, but I get a message saying "You cannot post any links at this time."

What antivirus or software firewall do you have installed? Some overzealous 'protection' software can interfere with keyboard functions, such as anti key logger or rootkit protections of your antivirus. Try disabling such things, at least temporarily while you troubleshoot. Again, I do not believe for a moment that it is the actual I.E. games, or it would be a prevalent topic in the various forums, and I've never seen such reports.

Hi I don't have any of those kinds of software installed, though I run them every now and then.

This forum won't allow me to post links, but if you google something like "icewind dale 2 keyboard problem" or "icewind dale 2 keyboard input problem" or queries of that nature, you should find a trove of information. Some of the links even go here to GOG forums.
