The normal means of minimizing games such as alt-tab do not work for some reason. Is there a simply way to minimize the game or fix being unable to minimize the game?

Switch to windowed mode (ALT+ENTER) then minimise it. Switch back to full screen with the same keys.

You can also hold the Windows key and press "D". I think it might be faster this way.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have already tried this, but unfortunately it is still problematic.
I'm unable to set windowed mode if the resolution of the game is the same as my screen (1920x1080), only if it is lower (such as 1600x900), so playing in windowed mode (without going back and forth) is not much of an option. The time it takes to go to windowed mode and back is quite long for some reason, so if I quickly want to minimize the game and go back to fullscreen often, it is very slow and inefficient.

Wait... you're playing Icewind Dale 2 in 1920x1080?! How do you SEE anything? No wonder it takes so long to switch modes; this is an OLD game.

I tried this but using the windows key+D does not allow me to move to another tab / minimize the game / go to windowed mode.

I tested it just now. It might not work for Icewind Dale 2, but it does for most other things. Sorry about that.

I'm using 1600x900 at the moment, but if I wanted to play in windowed mode so I can minimize the game (since I can't find any better option), it would have to be 1920x1080 because I can't play when a significant portion of my screen is not covered (such as in windowed 1600x900). That option is off the table too because it does not work (as I said - it does not allow me to do 1920x1080 windowed).

It's the screen resolution you're using. The game was not designed for that. I can't imagine playing at that size; everything must be minute. I'm assuming you're using the widescreen mod? I play at 800x600 and I can ALT+ENTER back and forward as I please, and it's almost instant. I'm on Windows 10 with a native screen at 1920x1200.

I am using the widescreen mode. 800x600 is too low resolution for me. Are you sure the higher resolution is what slowing it down? Is there any way I can make going into windowed mode and back faster besides playing in a low resolution and no mods? Cuz as of now it's a painfully slow.

Not in Windows 10 and not at that resolution. This game was made for DirectX 7 or 8. Windows 10 does not use DirectX any longer and you have to force the game to use DirectPlay.
