Playing IWD1 Classic (not the Enhanced Edition) for the first time. Diggin' it!

I just cleared the Hall of Heroes, getting ready to go on to Wyrm's Tooth. Before moving on, I consulted a walkthrough, to be sure I didn't miss anything.

The walkthrough says there should be a "Blessed Helm of Lathander". Man! does this look like a nice helm. Yet I don't see it anywhere in the Hall.

Anybody find (or not find) this particular magic Helm? It'd look great on my Cleric!

It is just so strange. That container only had a Potion of Insulation in my game. (I'm using the GOG version of IWD.)

I might just cheat the helm in. Doesn't seem to be many headgears in the game.

IWD1 uses a random loot system. Some items won't show up in every run

Personally, I happen to dislike it when a game has a finite amount of random loot, or of certain types of random loot.

This is, in fact, one of my criticisms of Wizardry 8, despite it being one of my favorite games.

Incidentally, I believe the Icewind Dale Tweak Pack has a tweak that replaces every random treasure with a special item that can be turned into any of the random treasures that could appear in that spot, so if you're willing to play a modified version of the game, that is an option.

The containers are *not* randomized, at least not the two you mention. Container 4 has the Potion of Insulation. Container 9 has the Blessed Helm of Lathander. There are 12 containers. Only container 1 has random loot.

Check Near Infinity for confirmation.

The link in your first post, to that youtube video, was very helpful, as it shows that I was definitely looking at the right container for the Helm. (I'm probably not remembering correctly exactly which container I got the Potion.) I even used the ALT key to highlight the clickables onscreen, in case maybe I picked it up and dropped it on accident, or something. But man, that Helm is nowhere to be found in my current game.

Yeah I agree. I like it when it's all random (thinking Diablo 1-2), or when it's never random (thinking Baldur's Gate 1-2), but the semi-random in IWD feels less enhancing, and more nerve-wracking.

That Tweak Pack tweak is a great idea... but I usually play these games "vanilla", the way the designers had intended, etc. Hell man, I feel mentally unstable just cheatin' this one missing Helm into my game.

(Although if I ever get time to play this again, I might try that IWD NPC mod written by Kulyok. After playing the other Bioware Infinity Engine games, it really feels like something's missing in IWD with no NPCs.)

Sorry for resurrecting this topic, but I know exactly why you had this problem. In one faq the guy tell you to go to one of the tombs after you defeat the lich and get the key from the oven. The problem with the helm is that there are two containers superimposed (one put on top of another) and one of those is where the helm is. I think you have to get all the treasuries, close the container and open it again.

There is another thing with this area, you get another of the same random treasury from the area before and not the last one where you could get long bow +3: repeater or long bow +3: defender, or maybe they removed it with the expansion (they removed a lot of "not balanced" items from random treasuries from the vanilla game -no expansion-).
