I have a new computer with a 120 GB solid-state drive for the OS (mostly), a 3 TB drive, and a 500 GB drive brought over from the previous computer. I'm in the process of re-installing games on the new machine. Long story short, when I installed IWD (GOG installer) to the 3 TB drive it would not run at all. It simply gave an error saying there was 'not enough free disk space to continue,' which is not even remotely true. But IWD will run if installed on either of the smaller drives. No other fix/tweak/trick would work. So obviously IWD (alone of everything I've re-installed so far, including IWD2) isn't able to correctly read how much free space is available on a truly ginormous drive.

Obviously, I solved my problem on my own, but I found it through trial and error, not here in this forum. I'm putting this here so that when this problem bites someone else, the solution will be here to be found. And, maybe, someone might have an idea for a way to get IWD to run on any-size drive.
You could try shrinking the main 3TB volume down a certain size, and make a new partition where the shrunken part of the old partition used to be, and install IWD on the new partition.
I understand that this thread's a bit old, but I'm having the same issue. This is suddenly onset after I tried installing some mods. I've since uninstalled the game, deleting the directory in the process, and reinstalling from scratch. The problem continues. I'd rather not have to break out a partition tool just to play IWD, so I'd be interested in hearing if there's any possible fixes.

Some programs (Infinity Engine games among them) have problems with hard drives greater than 2TB. Seeing how the games are not going to be updated, there is no other solution.
Hard to believe this is still active. However, maybe I should add that the problem I originally described happened with the original GOG installer. With the 2.0 installer, for whatever reason, IWD seems to run from a hard drive larger than 2 TB just fine. I'm not sure whether that's due to some technical reason or just dumb luck. But anyone who installed IWD using the 1.0 installer and has problems may want to redownload and give the 2.0 installer a try and see if their luck is the same.

2.0 has this issue addressed., so luck had little to do with it ;)

Good to know. Thanks.

Would installing mods mess with this at all? I managed to fix the issue by installing to another drive, but I was using the 2.0 installer.

Mods don't mess with the installer, or the IDMain.exe as a rule, so the answer should be no.

As long as you won't change the name of executable, you should be ok.
What is the 2.0 installer mentioned, and where do I find it?

Edit: So it looks like I'm already installing with 2.0 installer. I have 3TB hard drive as well and I'm getting the same error message, that I don't have enough free disk space.

So I've tried using the new installer, and I've had 0 luck getting this to run. I continue to get the same error message. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get this to run, or on what steps I need to take to get my money back for the purchase?

I assume you actually do have free space on this 3TB drive? Contact support.

I do have over 2TB of free space. I contacted support, thank you for the link.
I did not use the GOG installer, just downloaded the game file, double clicked on it, and then installed it onto my 3TB drive from my SSD DL folder with no problems.
