Bought this game a few days ago, and I couldn't get it to run, no matter what I tried. I have a friend whom I gifted the orignal version of IWD to and he had a similar problem where the game won't launch, but since he was on Windows 10, he turned on directplay and everything worked fine for him. I don't know if I have the same problem, but I still need some help. I installed all the patches I could find, nothing worked. I heard some things about GOG Galaxy being a problem, so I installed the game on it's own, nothing. Could I have some help?
What is the error message if you are getting any?

What is your gpu?

What do you mean by "all the patches". As far as I know IWD2 on GOG is fully updated. I maybe wrong.

ps. I have win7 and it works fine for me without doing anything.

Have you been doing everying hap-hazard and willy-nilly? IWD2 needs *no* patches, in fact how on Earth did you install patches? They should have aborted with an up-to-date installation like the GOG version.

Uninstall the game (properly via Control Panel), download the classic manual installer, install the game again and be absolutely sure to do a custom install and install it outside of Program Files, somewhere like C:\Games\... keep the path short. When it's installed, and *before* you run the game, open Windows Explorer to the installation folder and run 'config.exe' to make sure your ini files are populated properly. Now run the game.

It just says the game stopped working

Playing on a laptop, Nvidia Quadro K1000m, but I just realized that I'm running the game using my integrated graphics card, let me switch over and see if it works...

Nope

And by all the patches, I mean the tweaks.

Tweaks, as I said. There's an installation guide somewhere around here with some tips with tweaks and patches.

Where can I find the classic manual installer?

If you installed the game on its own without Galaxy, then you've already used the classic installer.
I found a few post but that one looks promissing.

You can try those..

uncheck the scaling and the "run as administrator"

and...

Go to the IWDII Directory.

Delete DDraw.dll (yes, I know, the mind rebels, but trust me).

My settings are: Compatibility mode: WinXP SP3. Run as Admin.

Config Settings: unlocked 1024x768, 32 Bit, full screen.

I used the GOG Downloader

Yep, then you got the Classic installer, as that's the one the GOG DLer grabs.

Just to double check, as I don't think you mentioned it: where are you installing the game (what folder)?

It was downloading to the GOG Galaxy folder. I'm reinstalling it to another to see if that does anything.
Nope

Weird. I wonder if it has anything to do with Galaxy. I had the game installed on my Win7 64 bit rig and it worked fine, but I didn't have Galaxy installed.

Anyone?
I have got the same Problem.
With the GOG and the Original Version of IWD 2.

All the other IE Games, in the Original, GOG and EE Version are working without any problems.

It seems like there is one small difference with IWD 2 that causes the game to crash before it even started.
I have got an Intel hd3000 as internal GPU and a Geforce 540m as gaming GPU in my notebook.
Try to add IWD2 into NVidia panel settings. Also try to remove tripple buffering, antialiasing and most "new" settings there. Worked fine for me on win7.
