Stupid question but I just can't figure this out. I've just received the Ice Spear for completing rank 7 of Battle Squares. It has a special power of Ice Lance 1/day which is really useful against Remorhaz, but for the life of me I can't work out how to use it. I equip the spear but there is no special icon for using the Ice Lance power. How does this work?

At the bottom of the screen you have several icons. The one that shows a backpack (to the left of the 3 quick-item slots) gives you access to any special abilities of items you have equipped). You must have the spear equipped to use it.

The slots to the left of the 3 quick-item slots are for various powers - seacrh, pick lock etc - there is no single "backpack" icon. The three quick-item slots are themselves displayed as backpacks when no quick-item is equipped there (this is IWD2). Still can't figure out how to use special powers of equipped items.

This is for weapons, armour etc obviously - things that go in the quick-item slots are obviously easy.

Any other thoughts?

No matter - I'm an idiot. It's in the manual. If you right-click on the quick-slot icons, you can map one or more to using the powers. After you do this, it shows as a backpack rather than the standard quick-slot icon pic.

Interesting that there's no other manual way to use item powers apart from setting this up
