Ok so I beat the game and I cant figure out how to start heart of fury mode. I looked online and it said to open up the icewind dale II config.exe but there is nothing like that in my folder. How do you access the config program in the GOG version? I have windows 7.

It should be something like :

Start -> All Programs -> GOG.com -> Icewind Dale II Complete -> config
Like I said I opened up the icewind dale II folder and there is no config program in it.

Are you sure?

I have had a look in this thead:
There should be a Config utility in your installation folder ( the main folder where you installed the game). If you run it, you can check heart of Fury mode on the General tab under the Difficulty setting (to the left side of the General tab).

and confirmed it with my own version of the game.

Do you by any chance have any mods / tweak packs installed?

Just to confirm what Senbon linked, my system is Win7 x64, and the config file is definitely there. As noted, it's in your main IWD2 folder (wherever you installed the game. For me that's in Programs->Games)
No I checked everywhere in there and there is no configuration program in the instal folder. Is there something in the .ini that I can just change and turn it on.
I'm gonna interject here. I don't have IWD2 or I'd do it myself, but how about someone just posts a screen-shot of the folder & highlight the file that cromwest should have?
Good idea, ChaunceyK. Here you go:

That should help. Also, is it possible it has a file extension that is normally "hidden" & could therefore be eluding Cromwell?

Well, it's an application file, so the extension should be .exe
Thanks for the screen shot. Its definitely not there. I'm going to save my save game files and reinstall it to see if I can get it to appear.
Ok so I figured it out. My anti-virus was registering the config program as a virus. I uninstalled IWD2 and reinstalled it and it kept cancelling my instal because of the config program. So i turned off the anti-virus temporarily and installed IWD2 and the config program was finally installed. I turned it on and checked HOF (made sure to save my game and exported characters before the uninstall/reinstall) and started a new game with my party.

I am pleased to report the docks of targos are clear again (with ease) and my party is once again ready to roll over anything that gets in its way.

Follow up question. I noticed some of the items sold in targos were better versions of the old items but all the drops so far and most of the non-named stuff in the shop were the same crap as before. Do the drops get better as you go or are only items with names upgraded?

Yeah, that happened when I played Temple of Elemental Evil...my anti-virus swore it was a trojan or something stupid. It happens sometimes.
The folk will drop better items when you advance further.
I used a Bard to "cheat" the game. But it is no fun and I quit the game.
May get a revisit later.

So far im having a pretty easy go of it. I cleared chapter one with no problems and im done with the first few areas of chapter 2. I have a bard but the game doesn't let me spam the last song while paused like other people mentioned (possibly patched). I haven't had to resort to anything cheesy yet I think I built my party pretty solid.
