Puzzle: So... Having the same issue. I have Windows XP and I've read the thread pretty thoroughly, however I'm also kind of technologically illiterate. I have no clue what any of you are talking about, let alone how to do them :( If someone can tell me how to possibly fix this using non tech terms, I would be really grateful...
My system is Windows 7 but you can still try this: Just go to your desktop. Then right-click the icon of "Icewind Dale Complete" (that's the default name). Then a list of things you can do will pop-up. There, just click the "Run as administrator" option. Voila! You can now play it!

Thank you! I'm extremely lacking the tech savvy part of this gaming adventure, lol. I'm very much a button masher when it comes to figuring out how to make things work with my computer(usually get it done... After a lot of growling and plotting caveman-esque techniques of laptop domination).
THank you works

bigmanjokk: I have installed IWD, but when I try to start a game it freezes instantly and I have to terminate the process.
I have tried different graphic settings, I have tried using the mod guide here on this site, and I have tried a clean install several times.

Any tips?

Kezardin: If you're running Windows 7 try these settings in the shortcut :

- Compatibility mode to Windows XP
- Disable visual themes
- Disable desktop composition
- Disable display scaling

Seems to be working for me. I haven't gotten a game going yet, but I can create characters.

Good to hear and hope you enjoy the game ☺
Well I still have the problem it just freezes after clicking Create game. I have tried every sinigle option more then ones now even going so far as to reinstall and downloading the game.

as soon as I click the Create game it freezes... and in ID2 say access deny

only the escape and enter key seems to work and that is only to unfreeze the game as not thing at all have happen as is still sitting there waiting.
The funning thing is that my original games with disk does work without any trouble at all

:EDIT: sorry forgot to mention that I have a vista 64
another thing the old games was uninstall before I install the ones I have bought from gog

on more thing to note for some reason game modes on both games is disable exept for single player even with windowmode selected

okay I have been playing around with the setting a long time now an no matter what I do it will not work on my vista 64.
So on a hutch I copyed the downloaded files of icewind 1 and 2 to my fathers pc which is a Vista 32 and it works without a hitch. I am not sure why it is as close to spec as mine is but yet only his can play them so I have to take a guess and say it may not be able to be played on a 64bit system...
