Is it worth it? I already own the original havent played it yet tough since i want to finish bg 1 and 2 firs
Play the original first. Do yourself a favour.
Why would it be a favour? Not trying to be difficult, but asking why. My understanding was that the enhanced edition was basically the exact same, but with widescreen mods and some other quality of life improvements.

I have both...but was planning on diving right into the enhanced edition...why shouldn't I?
Thanks MrGOTIME, I was going to ask the same question.

I have the original from GOG as well, and bought the Enhanced versions because GOG made it so cheap (thankyou!) for those who already had the original. I thought, why not? I haven't got into either, yet, but I am curious to know whether the Enhanced is really a complete replacement for the original. I've read in afew palces that it's *not*, but I don't have the experience of either to tell.

Because it is *not* the same game. It has overpowered BG2 kits and lots of other out of place 'enhancements' that make it a *very* different experience from the original. Classic games like IWD, BG etc. should be first experienced as they were designed, and the reason for this is that you only get *one* chance. If you play the 'enhanced' versions first, that magical experience of the originals is lost to you forever. No 'ifs' or 'buts'... it's gone.
I appreciate the clarification. That's more along the lines of what I was looking for. Thanks!

You'll probably do just fine with a widescreen mod and a fixpack on your first go through.

Pocketplane and Gibberlings3 are probably the places to go.
You don't even need a mod. Simply start playing. You can still mod your game afterwards if you can't bear the classic looks.
