I can create a character until I get to the bio and name. when I click on either one numbers appear to fill up the box and I am unable to backspace or delete.

I, too have the same problem.

I think I have found a way to solve it. I followed the advice given in some post in this forum. I created a new windows user with administration rights. I changed properties of Icewind Dale program to run as admin in all users (right click - properties), logged in as the new user, ran the game and it worked great!

When trying to name my character in Baldurs Gate the field was auto filling with 66666666... I am running Win XP. I solved my issue by right clicking on Baldur.exe and choosing "Run as..." and picking a user with administrative rights. I also de-selected the box labeled "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity."

I am now able to name my characters and saves something other than 6666666666...

I had the same problem.

I figured out that it had something to do with the numeric keypad. What I do is that I press ctrl, alt, esc and some of the numeric keys (at the same time, or consequently) until it is fixed.

I know it sounds a bit awkward, but it works for me. :)

This bug is rendering the game unplayable for me. If I click on biography it enters a bunch of random text and crashes the game. If I skip biography and go to name, it fills the name screen with random text.

I've tried:

1) Installing the G3 fixpack
2) Adding an exception for the IDmain.exe in my anti-virus
3) Running IDmain as administrator
4) Running in compatibility mode
5) Reinstalling the program
6) Rebooting the computer
7) Hitting my head on my desk repeatedly.

This^, except my text fields do not fill up with random characters. Just those backslash '/' things.

This is a very common issue, and is nearly always down to drivers. The solution is very simple: reboot your computer.

Yeah after I had posted this I went and searched AGAIN for forum posts about this issue (changing my wording this time) and came across one of your posts suggesting this...and it worked. Thanks for that.
