I tend to get carried away with multi-character RPGs and this is now exception. I've read four or five character tip sheets, created going on ten parties, and yet to get out of the opening tavern.

AM I THINKING TOO MUCH!?

I guess there comes a time when one needs to say fuck it, play around and have some fun, not worry about Mage over Druid or Human over Halfling. What I really want to know is does this game allow for relaxing? :P Some of these FAQs I read will insist the difference between winning and losing can virtually be determined by a single skill point. :D I want to enjoy this game, but not have a nervous breakdown doing it.

IWD 1 or IWD 2?

Assuming it's 1, you can beat this game with a solo character of pretty much any class/race, so you needn't worry about the 'perfect' party. Just roll with whichever party appeals to you the most and you'll be fine. My only recommendation would be that you have all the roles covered (warrior, thief, mage, healer). Other than that, go with whatever you like.

The above pretty much applies for 2 as well, but if you're worried about skills and feats for your characters, just ask and we'll get you pointed in the right direction.
Are you thinking too much? It would be easy to say 'yes', but actually, no you're not. You are allowing others to do the thinking for you by investing so much time and effort into reading tip sheets, etc. instead of formulating your own unique party, and playing the game how you want to play it (without the outside influences). Just... do it!

Thanks. I noticed you have a lot of postings in the ID forum and I will try to cover them before asking any stupid questions, but I make no promises. :P
Sounds like you're overthinking it yeah. But that can happen, I did it too. It's one thing to create one dude, but 6? Easy to get overwhelmed by all the choices. The game is much more combat- heavy than BG, so make sure you have a fighter or two (or paladin, ranger etc). There are no tricks really, just make sure your bases are covered.

A fighter or two
Mage
Healer
Thief

That's all you need really, and the thief is kind of barely needed, which is why many prefer a fighter/thief. Other than to have the bases covered, you can go with whatever you like.
