Still getting combat freezes. In fact, they are even worse now in the later dungeons. I just had to force-quit out of the same dungeon four times in succession, naturally losing all progress each time, simply because an enemy would hang on its action turn.

So my question is, will this ever be patched, or should I give up now? Because I really like pretty much everything else about the game.

To be honest... you tried to look for a solution? I'm not in the end game, but I never had any problems in game. Maybe the problem lies with your PC or something simillar, rather that the game.
And, about the original question... probably not. They have 6 other titles, so I doubt they will come back for a prequel.

Yes, I've searched for a fix. And a number of other people have reported the exact same problem elsewhere. The problem is definitely in the code and not my computer. I am quite certain as to what causes the crash in the game code (bad bounding box handling). Possibly with different graphics cards or OS versions this behaves differently due to how calculations are handled, but I seem to have one of those configurations where it is a frequent problem.

It's a damned shame they can't be bothered to address deep functional flaws in their game, even if those flaws only impact a certain portion of the user population. I doubt I'll waste time and money on anything else they put out if their attitude is "works fine for some, so good enough".
Well, I'm not working for them so I can't exactly tell you that's their motive - for my knowledge they are busy with Megadimension Neptunia VII having many problems... ranging on all specs, really. You could always try to contact them - maybe they will look into that as well?
That being sad - I still doubt it. And I with opinion that this is wrong. I understand that, for example, the only 'support' that Vampire the Masquarade can get is from fans, cause the comapny is long dead, but this? It's new, they are doing good... so why not send at least a bit of resource to improve games that are there already for some time?

Given that the copyright date on the main screen of the PC edition of the game is last year, I'd really think it would still be in the support cycle. But it being a port means they probably think they've gotten all the revenue they are going to get from it, at least to the degree that fixing the bugs now is more of a losing prospect for them.

The only way that I've managed to persevere through the game is that I am a programmer so I can figure out some of the quirks of the system. That and a lot of grinding so that I can wipe out monster parties before they move. But I just now crashed on the final boss battle and I gotta say I'm hating this. Especially as the game loves to throw up walls of text before major battles and no opportunity to save.

It's lucky for them that GOG's review mechanism is just as buggy, or I'd leave a cautionary review about this game. But since most of my reviews never post I've given up on that system too. No sign of it being patched anytime soon either. ~_~
You just explained to my why one of my reviews never appeared...

What can I say - best of luck in either fixing it yourself... or getting the patch. Cause sadly... that's all that can be said now. :(
I managed through sheer bloodymindedness to finish the damn game, but it would be much nicer if it worked properly. At least it sounds like the problem is inconsistent across users, so some folks may be able to enjoy it trouble-free.
