Thank you for providing us with an image to illustrate your issue, as we might have been mislead by your statement -- your error has nothing to do with having a controller, it's just that OpenAL32.dll is missing from your *.dll library.

Lots of people had this problem with Hotline Miami and a few other games, just click here: http://support.focus-home.fr/oalinst.exe and install the missing file, then you're good to go.

Enjoy this game, it's an awesome one! :D

I have Install the openal32.dll over your Link now, but now is missed the MSVCR100.dll for playing this game. I hope it is the last dll i need for play it.

Did anyone knows where i can get this file ?

Then click 'ZIP-Datei herunterladen', choose a recent version supporting your operating system, extract the respective file to either C:/Windows/System32 or C:/Windows/System64 (I am not completely sure about the folder names). Reboot aaand you're done. If another error occurs, try regsvr32 msvcr100.dll in the cmd.
No warranty or whatever, good luck.

I would advise against downloading single DLLs from any platform you don't absolutely trust, especially when the original source is still available.

msvcr100.dll should be part of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (for this game you probably need the linked (x86) version, the (x64) version is here). Check for Windows updates after installing.

GOG also provides a download for OpenAL32 ver.2.0.7.0

To clarify where to put DLLs:
On 32 bit Windows, put them into C:\Windows\System32

On 64 bit Windows:
- put 64 bit DLLs (aka x64) also in C:\Windows\System32
The folder is only named ..32 to offer backwards compatibility for older programs, but contains 64bit system files.
- put 32 bit DLLs (aka x86) in C:\Windows\SysWOW64
WOW64 is the Windows on Windows functionality on 64bit systems. It means running Win32 programs on Win64. Hence the 32bit DLLs are to be put there.

Hope that's helpful for somebody, even if the original question is already a few months old ;-)

Ah crap, so did I and I didn't take my chance. Now he got all the credit and I will be only remembered as the guy who replaced "de" with "www". This sucks man, it friggin' sucks!

Hello there!

I have the same problem with the Mac version of the game. I tried to play with the updated version, than an error massage came up. I can play with the older version, but I don't understand why the updated version didn't start. I have the system requirements. I play it on a 13 inch Early 2015 MacBook Air, 1,6 GHz Core i5, 4GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB, with macOS Mojave 10.14.5. The Steam version of the game starts the updated version, but I don't know why the GOG version not. Thank you for your help!

^^^^ Same problem here. The updated version won't start and the reason seems to be this missing library:

Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: /usr/X11/lib/libGL.1.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/Hotline Miami.app/Contents/Resources/game/Hotline Miami.app/Contents/MacOS/HotlineMiami.app/Contents/MacOS/HotlineMiami
Reason: image not found
