Has anyone tried it with wine on Linux? Any success?

I'd like to know if it works, preferably with minimal effort, before I purchase it.

There are no posts on appdb yet about the gog-specific release, as of this post.

They have. Success with Homeworld, Homeworld 2 and the Remaster!
I have managed to successfully launch Homeworld 2 remastered on Linux. Haven't tried other games yet but I guess they will also work.

Thanks, didn't know about that post. Wish I had noticed it when the remaster was still at the 50% release discount.. I was hoping someone would post about it here :)

@killy9999: Out of curiosity, did it need PlayOnLinux or special config? or does raw wine simply work? The poster from the linked post linked above seems to have used PlayOnLinux/CrossOver.

I used wine 1.9.11 (I believe this is the latest unstable build), installed dotnex40 using winetricks and that's it. No PlayOnLinux, or anything else. One thing that caused me some problems is that the launcher needs to be run from the launcher directory, not from the installation directory of the game. One thing I was unable to do was bypassing the launcher to start the games directly. On Wine's AppDB you'll find instructions what command line params need to be given to the game executable to start the games without launcher. That kinda worked but it triggered an unpleasant bug: sound would disappear after skipping a cut-scene or loading a game. When running the game through the launcher there are no sound issues.

Raw Wine. Use Wine 1.9.12 and the included .NET 4 installer even works. I should mention I have only tried the classic versions so far. Neither actually use .NET 4 unlike the Remaster.

For me the built-in .Net installer bailed out claiming that a newer .Net version is already installed. My guess would be that wine is faking availability of .NET. I wonder why it worked for you.

Well, I never install mono when creating a new prefix.
In 06-2022 they all run in my Devuan distro but i had to start them from the command line.
