I had a similar feeling but only linking it to heretic. But since heretic is pretty much a total conversion...(not bashing heretic here, I love heretic ;) )

It's strange, playing Hocus Pocus for the first time had me thinking "this game reminds me of Doom. Side-scrolling Doom would be good".
They should make DOOM Hocus.
I wish GOG had Id's games, that would make my year - and I'm sure lots of other people's too! Hey, remember when FPS games used to be about movement and speed; as opposed to 'sprinting' slowly, whilst lugging your two guns to hide behind a wall in order to 'wait' yourself better ;)
