The game's got an interesting spooky atmosphere. I didn't really like the first three or four levels too much, the rest was enjoyable enough.

Last level sucked and felt completely broken (the "normal" police has no idea wtf is going on and you can blast them away all you like, while the SWAT guys instantly see thru your disguise across the map, but on the hand some groups of them don't react to the sound of your footsteps so you can easily take out at least two groups of them with the silenced pistol from almost point blank range).

The restaurant remake was pretty disappointing too. I don't know what happened but the big guy's Big Henchman got angry and ran to the front door of the restaurant, I happened to be standing on the whorehouse's bridge and shot at him with ballers, he did absolutely nothing but stand there until he died. Nobody else cared. The big guy with his sword was waiting at the bottom of the circular staircase, and once I got close enough & some guard passed thru the doors, he came running at me but nobody else gave a shit so I ran out and shot him in the face in an alley between the buildings. The rest was just getting to the basement to figure out where the jade figurine is. I guess you could've done tricks with poison or laxative but I never got that far before it was over...

Does anyone else feel like the game is.. unfinished? Like they had to rush it to release, and thus had to wrap it with very little story to speak of, no sense of continuity, no weapons collection or money system (well you can replay a mission with more weapons but when you first encounter a mission, it's always the same starting set up regardless of what you did in the past), some levels with large areas with nothing much in them, glitchy AI, sometimes glitchy disguises (get in a firefight, and during the split second before your target dies your disguise is blown and apparently the whole level knows who to look for?), relatively limited opportunities to use more interesting techniques than simply going in and shooting your target..? It doesn't help that I'm not really compelled to go for silent assassin rating if the game offers me nothing except some weapon should I bother to play the missions again after finishing them once.

They made the game with the time and resources they could spare, since they were already working on Blood Money at that time.

I feel like most of the complaints you have can be allocated to the fact it's just the Hitman 2 engine with some added fixes and upgrades. And since it's based on most of the concepts of Hitman 2, it is just a slightly improved version of that at best, but getting most of the issues as well. That game also only has the Silent Assasin rating / collecting weapons as far as replayability goes. Although there are enough different options to complete a mission I'd say.

Story wise, it makes sense as besides the last level it is just a collection of previous missions Agent 47 has completed. The fact that he escapes the asylum in the first mission and then has a few new missions we've never seen, before halucinating even more and going back to all the re-makes is just what ties it together.

There are enough options in the levels to complete the level, but you have to choose what route you will play, otherwise it hardly works out as intended since the AI just does it's thing and you miss the right options. I'm not sure if you've played the original hitman game before this, but the re-make levels play pretty similar in what you are supposed to do.

And yes, I agree that the last level and the early levels are quite bad. I really hate Bjarkhov Bomb since the level design is terrible and it takes way too long, besides being more of a disguise walking simulator. The only level that really stands out is Beldingford Manor, since that's how I like my hitman missions at best.

Yes I've played the original, and I think the mission design feels way more complete and it makes me think and plan a little. The remakes in Contracts somehow feel simplified & more straightforward. (Hitman 2: SA also felt simplified and more straightforward compared to the first Hitman game, although it had a few decent missions)

Yeah, that was a really good one!
