Usually i just go with the manual instalation, downloading each file for the chapter and follow these instructions
How to install the patch manually (for Windows, Linux, and Mac)¶

Hint

Newer graphics patches requires an extraction software compatible with .7z.

On Windows: 7-zip (WinRAR is also acceptable)
On Linux: p7zip in your package manager
On Mac: Keka

On Windows or Linux (any distro):
Linux Users: GNOME Desktop and Ubuntu causes Game Crash - Workaround

Find and open your game folder
On Steam: open your Steam library, choose the game from the list, right click on it and click on Properties. Switch to the LOCAL FILES tab and click on Browse local files...)
After downloading all the files needed for your version of the game, place them in the root folder (where the game .exe is)
Navigate inside HigurashiEp0*_Data/StreamingAssets (where * is the chapter number) and delete the folders CG and CGAlt
This is not a requirement but we recommend to delete the mentioned folders to save disk space and avoid any random issues
Select all the downloaded files placed in the root directory EXCEPT the file called [CHAPTER TITLE].Voice.and.Graphics.Patch.[VERSION NUMBER].zip and extract them (protip: use Extract Here from the context menu)
Extract the mentioned file after extracting all the others. Overwrite all files if asked
Delete all the downloaded files after ensuring the game is working as expected

On Mac OSX:

Mac users can normally follow the Windows instructions, but if the slightly different folders confuse you, try these steps:

Find and open your game folder

Wait until the files are copied to the right place
Delete all the downloaded files and any leftover HigurashiEp**_Data folders after ensuring the game is working as expected

Okay when I tried all of that it only ended up as a white screen. Is there like any video showing how it is done. Cause everything I try to mod the GOG version ends up as a failure for me.

Well is the pc doing anything? It takes a while until everything works after you started the exe of the game i believe.
Don't know about the UI mod if needed. Since previously it was optional now i don't know if it's necesarry.
Think you just need to extract the zip folders in the place where you got the game installed.So put all the zip downloaded folders into where the game exe is
Though i believe it shouldn't be program files.
An example would be C:\GOG Games\Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.3 Tatarigoroshi\
Delete files inside streaming assets CG and CGalt
Extract the downloaded files where the game is installed first in any order is voice, CG, CGalt,UI mod,movie and then you should extract voice.and.graphic.patch.zip file last
I only played ch1 till 4 still need to try ch 5 and on with the mod and yes i did try it all question arcs with the 7thmod
Also never tried the UI mod before maybe it's needed now.
Currently i don't have it installed to test it out.
And i am waiting for the next manual installation patches to come out the voice.andgraphic.patch.

No its still not working. Its just a blank screen and this time all I hear are the cicadas.

Which higurashi hou are you trying to install? Tried running it one more time?
Maybe you should ask 07th mod about this.
Also i just tried ch 5 with the mod. It works for me.

It's the first one I am trying to use the mod on. I'll see if they will respond.

From what I've seen in the comments, it seems you're trying to manually patch Higurashi. Manually trying to mod Higurashi is an exercise in frustration. I tried it thrice and failed… I’m a power user and been moding games and installing uncensored patches to visual novels/eroges for the longest time and this game is far the hardest to mod manually in my opinion… There’s too much variables involved and one single mistake will cause the game to malfunction and you’ll have to uninstall the game and reinstall again to repeat the process…



There’s a so called automated installer in the 07th-Mod website. Download the installer and copy/paste it on the game’s directory which something like this: "c:\gog games\Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.1 Onikakushi" and run the installer from there. And also make sure to read the FAQs in the website before you install so you’ll get a general idea on what you’re doing.


On the website they specifically mentioned that manually patching the game is error prone or doomed to fail. The manual patches are there but it’s very difficult to near impossible to get it right. Might as well make your life easier and just use the installer instead.


About the patch itself, depending on your internet speed or connection, it does take quite a while to finish or complete. However its worth as it adds a new animated opening of the VN as well as voice acting and new updated sprites from the PS3 Port.
