The coming soon page gives May 6th as the release date. What gives?
No, the coming soon page states that the game was originally released on the 6th of May, 1996. I don't think there's any official word on the hold up, but if you check the other topics in this board the speculation seems to be that it's because Ubi wants to charge 10$ for the game while GOG wants to keep to 5,99$.
$6 or $10 big deal!!!

but it is a big deal - Heros of Might and Magic is a very old and dated game now and its very unlikley to attract any new players for it - so the only people getting it will be reliving memories. A price of $10 is something rather high for a game so old - infact I would expect a $6 price for this and might and magic 2 -- might and magic 3 might have enough qualty to go for $10 with 4 easily being a $10 (even though its not worth it ;))
I suppose they are also waiting for sales of their 5 in one pack to die down (heros 1,2,3,4 and 5 with all expansions save for those for 5) as otherwise its in direct competition

It's a pretty old game and considering you can find the Heroes IV or V ones at your local Target/Walmart/etc. selling for $20, HOMM1 would be overpriced at $10.
For ten bucks more you'd be getting something that works with XP and maybe Vista with better graphics and sound too. Mind you, I thought HOMM1 was the best of the series (I havent' played V yet) but heck, it's 13 years old now.
So it means that the price will be 9.99$ next week? Wow I think it is better to buy now, because spend 10$ for a so old game no way...
Yeah, this and II should have been combined for $6.

shoop: Yeah, this and II should have been combined for $6.

I agree. It's easily one of the oldest games on GOG.com, and charging $10 for it? Regardless of the quality of the game, it defies the precedent set by the other prices.
Don't get me wrong, I'm the biggest Heroes fan there is (owning every game and expansion :D), but at this price, I'd rather grab a copy of II or III of Amazon or something.
The price is a bit odd considering the age and features of the game itself and the fact that it was almost given away for free in the 5 in one game pack sold in shops. However with at least 4 games (HOMM 1, 2, 3 and 4) in the older areas and many being very popular GOG really can't let the deal fall apart.
Most HOMM collections are long out of print in the US. Even cheapo Platinum collection is selling for something like $90, and the beautiful Complete white box is close to $200. Somehow this particular series holds value (rather price) well. Still, I would agree to shoop, HOMM I and II should be combined at this price, and King's Bounty should be bonus download.
Now, the really odd part -- the manual is from replacementdocs.com??? Give me a break, that's practically abandonware site. Can't Ubisoft provide better scans of the manual?
