Separating undead and demons? That would mean creating a new allignment and a new magic school too. To be honest I have no clue what should demonic magic be about. Chaos magic is fitting, but what with chaos then? Nah, I think it is good now.

I really like the HOMM series and I have all the games (even the first bought on ebay).
I'm really waiting to purchase the GoG version.
There's even an open source project about remaking the engine for HOMM2.

Soulseeker: I already own all HOMM titles except HOMM 1.
Its almost a buy for me
HOMM2 and 3 was,or better "is", some of the best games i have ever played.
I agree with LemmingJesus. HOMM5 is a nice comeback from HOMM4 and its true that it reminds a lot of HOMM3
I also totally agree with this "Jeez, time evaporates once you start this game up."
I have to agree with you all.
Start playing with Heroes III, passed weeks and weeks with friends one this one (Hot Seat is great when you're young and network conf is to much a hassle =).
I've play Heroes II a little afterwards, was great too.
I once start Heroes IV but I found graphics too bad. How did they dare make Castles interface so ugly? Heroes III's ones were a delight. Having Heroes III to finish, I just let down Heroes IV.
I was afraid Heroes serie fade away with Heroes IV, having no news for a good time and 3DO closing, but then Heroes V came and gave me what I want, Heroes III with some "fixes" (autonomous garrison for example) and beautiful refreshed graphics.
So I'm very pleased, to say the least (I jump from my chair at work when I saw the announcement!), to see Heroes I on GOG, and hopefully the others following.
P.s.: Am I the only one bored when I search for 'Heroes' on the web and get links for Heroes the TV show? I remember that before this show, 'Heroes' meant 'Heroes Of Might And Magic' on the web. Huh.

You have to remember that before Heroes of Might and Magic, searching Heroes would probably bring up some greek guys. That is, if the internet was older than HoMM. But I agree, changing the Heroes who go on epic quests leading armies of the fantastic to those mostly bland "new-age" superHeroes is kind of sad. Sandro? The most kickass villain of all time. Sylar? A complete wuss with fake issues. Also, guess which of the two actually receives character development and which pretends to get one. sigh...
And there's nothing wrong with Hotseat. Even if you have the option to use the internet, to have your opponents right there at your side to mess with or give (and receive) advice, has its own rewards.
You mustn't take Heroes IV for granted. However it's shortcomings, it has the best story and narration of all Heroes, and that's saying something (save V, the biggest disappointment I have with Ubisoft is that they didn't give the story of Heroes the same care they gave to, say, their Prince of Persia comeback). Try out the campaigns of Emilia Blackraven, or Gauldoth Half-Dead (I hope I wrote those right), and you'll see what I'm talking about. Apparently they had this part all done before the rest of the game, so it is what they actually finished. (Uhh... but maybe you should steer clear of the Elven campaign. The narration is still great, but it feels too much like Titanic. That is, an tragedy of enormous proportions is cheapened to be the backdrop of a love story...)
Also, don't feel bad for 3DO. It is New World Computing that deserves our respect. 3DO are the guys who demanded NWC to make H4 on such a short notice and then launched before it was finished. NWC made the games. 3DO were the guys who milked their franchises to death (Army Men anyone?). NWC were the ones who had to put up with it.
Finally, what'd be really awesome (besides Ubisoft actually joining Ashan up with the real Might and Magic universe) would be if they (Ubisoft) bothered to make a MMX. Take the good lessons from MMIX (mostly, not releasing a game that is completely unplayable from a technical standpoint, but there are some good advances there as well) and make a Might and Magic game with today's graphics and advanced gameplay. The best games today are those where the gameplay can be as simple as you want to finish the game, or as complex as you need if you want to see all it can offer (the Total War series for instance let you completely ignore RT battle if you want, or simplify city management if you go the other way around, or have it all).
Ubisoft wants to milk the HoMM franchise, not to create another MM title. Dark Messiah is the example of their vision of MM games, but I don't blame them for that. I blame the people for whom Diablo-like clickfest = RPG (the majority). They wanted to make money from the ever popular Heroes games. They found out that HoMM3 was considered being the best, so Nival just did copy & paste (and improved something), and new HoMM game was born.
If you want neww MM game, then look forward to a fan project called MM X. It uses the old MM (6-8) engine and all the work is done by the community where everyone loves the series and doesn't work just for the money (it will be free). And no, the NWC MM world and the Ubi world (Ashan) will never be merged together. Ashan has its own history and it is not connected to the old semi sci-fi setting (blasters anyone?). If someone will try to do it anyways, I believe it will be the ultimate crap because Ashan is something completely different.

Now, there's not much of a point here, doesn't it? I'm wishing for a current gen MM game, that allows the level of immersion nowday games provide, not a game that has the greatest flaw of MM VII and VIII, recycled graphics.
I played HoMM5 and loved it. I seriously cannot wait for this game to come out on GOG. I hope they will release the rest of the HoMM games in time. Possibly even the MM games? =D This is one series I always wanted to get into when I was younger but never did. Is there a prospective release date for this?

I think I will definitely give Heroes IV another chance. But I haven't finish Heroes V yet so I think Heroes IV must wait another year (or two)...

I love that they are bringing it to GoG but the potential price tag of 5.99 seems just a tad high for a game that has had so many better sequels and that it is only 75mb. I mean I'l still buy it, but I sort of wish it was abit lower in price. meh.
It's rather odd that the game doesn't have a price listed unlike all the other games in the "Coming Soon" category...

That's because GOG is trying to get the price lowered to 5,99 instead of 10 dollars which is what Ubisoft wants. The game was suppossed to be released a long time ago but the price argument got the game delayed.

Taking bets now that HoMM 1 becomes the new Waxworks :D.

How did you know that? I'm not calling you a liar. I'm just curious where that was mentioned. =)

It was mentioned in this article and since the Heroes and might page doesn't have the price listed it seemed legit.

I bet your dead on. i found this other web site already selling HOMM 1 and 2.
http://www.download-free-games.com/pc/heroes_might_and_magic.htm
Vista isnt supported and its not using dosbox, so it doesnt run well. I tried the timed demo they have, it was a bad user experience to say the least, mIssing Animations, rollover states, audio jumpy.
I hope GOG and UBI get it together soon, i cant wait for this game.
