I am trying to run my GOG version of HOMM2 on my iPad with iDOS using the HEROES2.exe
It starts but it asks me the CD to have access to the solo play mode.
Anyone has tried and succeeded to run HOMM2 on an iPhone or iPad ?
Thanks

I am unfamiliar with iDOS. Assume similar to DOSBox but for iPads? In the GoG install, there will be homm2.ins, and homm2.gog (and a bunch of music\*.ogg files). The gog file is the cd image, the ins is text file for how the image is built and to define music tracks files and locations. If iDOS can do the same thing as DOSBox, you would have to have it mount this image inside iDOS as a
"cd drive". Looking it up, the latest version of iDOS 3.2 adds support for CD images with ogg file "music tracks" which is how the GoG version is distributed. You would need all the ogg files in the music folder as well as the image file I already mentioned.
Maybe you should try fheroes2? It's a recreation of the Heroes of Might and Magic II game engine and has a macOS version.

Thank you. I have been struggling to get things to work right and easily.
I was able to copy the .gog file and rename it to iso, mount it and it all worked.
Saved me a lot of headache and duplicating data.
For launch on regular DosBox or any ports of it on another platform i suggest fist rename included disc image files. ins and gog as user above already said. To bin+cue cause they are renamed bin cue.

Another one i would point to. Double check which file is bin and which is cue. Larger file are bin, smaller are cue. I dont remember if that is gog or ins. You need WordPad (unavailable in Win10+) or proper 3rd party text editor and edit cue file first rename it to some text extension. rename homm2.insgog there to homm2.bin. then make file homm2.cue. Keep else the same. Do NOT use Notepad. HEX editor for example HxD are good too, just accurately replace 3 symbols.

Cue file are MAIN image file in bin+cue duo. You cant use bin as single file or rename it to iso or img, not in subj case. And not possible to use large file directly. For some else games that possible.
OK, I have a good solution...
The APP is not iDOS but RetroArch.
Donwload RetroArch
RetroArch will let you select a core, you can select DOS (DOSBox-Pure)
Then you need to load content. Have the zip file of your GOG HOMM2 saved on your ipad and to load the content, open this zip file. Charge the archive. Run the DOS core.

Then you will be able to select the HEROES2.EXE

Games start

RetroArch gives you a visual of a control pad that you can hide. You will navigate with your finger on the screen.
Top left corner will propose a virtual keyboard that is usefull when you want to split your units.
