If they're physically in the same room as you, use "Hot Seat".

If they aren't, you have these options:
- LAN: if you have a LAN emulator like Hamachi, Evolve, Tunngle or GameRanger, this is the option you will need to use.
- Direct TCP/IP connection: the host tells his friends his IP address, creates a room and his friends then enter that IP address to join him.

Don't give out HotA to newcomers, they aren't aware of all the changes and haven't mastered regular Heroes III yet.

If you aren't in the same room, and if everyone is willing to use the honor system, then you can play-by-email using the hotseat option.

Create a hotseat game, then each player takes their turn and emails the save to the next player before hitting the End Turn button. The next player in line hits "End Turn" for you (in case there are any Beginning-Of-Turn events) and takes their turn.

Player-Player combat can either be handled by Auto-combat (make sure everyone has the same options set for auto-combat) or by installing some remote access software on each player's computer. If you use the remote access option, then the person being attacked remotes into the current player's computer and they resolve the action in pseudo-hotseat style.

Of course, none of this really works unless everyone is using the honor system.
