I just DLed Heroes 5. I'm playing a multiplayer map in TOE and it is repeatedly crashing when I attack with my Hero. And I'm not talking just CTD, but a complete lockup where I had to manually reset my laptop.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit on a Dell XPS with Intel i7 processor, 8 GB RAM. I tried running it in Windows XP compatibility mode and running it as an Administrator. Still got the crash. It's not happening every time, but it's happening more often. If it matter, I am playing as the Dwarven faction and was attacking some Marauders and then again attacking some Footmen. And it's like 3rd or 4th week, so there's not massive armies on the map.

Can anyone help? I've tried searching this forum and via google but searching for the words "hero" and "attack" is pretty futile.

As an aside, my laptop is getting super-hot when playing HOMMV. Is that common for this game? I've only ever played in on a desktop before.

Thanks all
Any help from anyone? I have tested a few different situations, and literally this crash only happens when I attack with my hero. Has no one else encountered this?
Not sure what's causing the crashes for you, try sending a support ticket if you haven't already.

Try enabling Vsync.

How do I do that? I don't see that as an option in game.

Thank you for mentioning a support ticket. Did not even occur to me. Just submitted one.

Ah yes there isn't one ingame you need to use your graphics drivers to force it for the game. It should be as simple as right clicking on your desktop, click Nvidia/AMD control panel, 3D settings, find the HOMMV games in the list and apply Vertical Sync to them. It locks the frame rate to the refresh rate of your screen so it's not drawing hundreds of pointless frames a second what could be your overheating problem.
Issue seems to have been solved by updating drivers for my graphics card. Should have been my first thought, duh. Anyway, for anyone else with this problem, try that.
And thank you Alfie for your help. I'll try it and see if it solves the problem. But the fan thing is really more of an annoyance than it is a deal breaker, so I'm not going to sink a ton of time in to fixing it if it doesn't work. Thanks for taking the time to help out a random passerby :)
