As of today, Heroes of Might & Magic 4 is bundled with GOG's custom DirectDraw wrapper that several other old games have received. On a clean installation, this wrapper solves the issue of lagging and/or crashing in battles.

If you want to remove it manually for troubleshooting, replacement with Verok's GL wrapper or whatever, the new files are the following: ddraw.dll, dxcfg.exe, dxcfg.ini.

Also, cloud saves are officially supported for Galaxy now.

I try to launch the game after an update, it closes immediately.
Reinstall\+verify
Do proeprly setup this wrapper.

No matter what settings I try, the result is the same.

Did you install Verok's wrapper and/or the HD mod before?

Yes. Then I completely deleted the game and reinstalled it.

Then, from the new installation, move or remove the files I mentioned in the first post and use Verok's solution instead.
I am getting runtime errors when I want to launch the game. I reinstalled it. I do not see any ot the mentioned files in the game's folder to remove. This sucks, game worked fine, not it does not at all.

Same issue. Win 10. And it's the first time to install the game in the PC.

Did your antivirus quarantine them silently?

I do not think so.

I have found some resolve meanwhile. When I open game's folder and use executable named "Launch Heroes of Might and Magic 4 Complete" it somehow works. It does not work from GOG launcher only.
same here - after update game just doesn't start. I also tried using exe files directly from folder and it didn't work.
Does Heroes4.exe have any compatibility settings placed on it?

I have tried to open the game as your way. It didn't work and the issue was same as open from GOG. The game just jump out a window with a title "File" and then shut down immediately.

I didn't keep the old files apart, can you give me a link of verok's files?
