Any idea why this game from 2006 won't run on a modern machine?


Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9600K CPU @ 3.70GHz (6 CPUs), ~3.7GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 12
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070

Can't find any help on the general GOG tech support pages

What OS? Windows 10? Can you give more details about what happens? Do you get an error message?

Hey, problem kind of resolved, but for posterity I am incluing additional details

There were no error messages, just the game freezing up my windows, blocking every interaction possible (not even task manager could help) forcing me to reset the PC or log out of my account on windows.

Running Win10 Pro x64

i bypassed the probbel by accessing the games folders directly and bypassing gog entirely by going into the root folder for heroes 5 and opening folder /bin and runniong the H_5.exe file.

Now for whatever reason, it runs fine from GOG and not from the root folder. Go figure.
