so, just to clear this up, i am talking about during combat, i have given my hero a sword and shield, he is a barbarian and has been using melee the entire game. but now, for some reason he has switch to a bow and i have no idea why. i am not sure how it happened or how to change it back. any suggestions?

If you look in the top right corner you should be able to select if your hero uses a melee or ranged attack with one of the buttons

You either have ranged weapon equipped, or your hero has learned archery. The archery skill makes your hero use ranged attack as default.

thank you guys very much for the help, i found out that i did actually visit an archery range, but the button that Solis suggested did work. thank you two
